August first at Polyhedron Arena. WBC light flyweight world title on the line, 1st defense of Pradabsri. They fought seven months ago, the day after Christmas at Rajadamnern Stadium - with Pradabsri capturing the vacant title via Majority Decision. The result was universally panned, with most observers seeing Cañizales as the deserving wide victor. Accordingly the WBC ordered a remach with the setting changed from Pradabsri's backyard of Bangkok to Cañizales' home of Caracas. Cañizales is undefeated in Venezuela. This will be just the fourth time Pradabsri has fought outside Thailand in 47 bouts - losing when he ventured to Japan & China. (the other international date was in Laos, which is basically right across the Mekong - and he wasn't facing a local on their own turf but rather Filipino journeyman Jaysever Abcede)
I had picked Panya the last time, and I only gave him three rounds in the fight. And that was me being extremely generous. Canizales has it in the bag. I hope once he wins he could face the other champions in the weight class. He is very fun to watch and always brings it.
This content is protected Since we all love miscellaneous facts. This the first time the belt has left Asia since 2016. Last time it was in Mexico when Ganigan Lopez defeated Jonathan Taconing.
Not currently listed on BoxRec, but definitely part of the card and likely to be higher on it than it deserves to be: "...renowned Venezuelan jiu-jitsu brown belt mixed martial arts fighter Omar Morales in his long-awaited professional boxing debut..." He was supposed to face 23 year old countryman Joshua David Pirela Sanquiz, who is an MMA crossover as well, with a black belt in kickboxing and 2-0 record in pro boxing. The opponent for Morales was changed yesterday to Iván José "Anejo" Herrera López - a 35 year old Caracas-born journeyman with a 3-11 record. Morales is getting ripped over this by fans on social media, saying he got scared after seeing Pirela go live (presumably a training video?). He's drawing a lot of eyeballs on this event but it seems to be a mix of popularity and disdain.
