Jealousy, they wish they had Galento’s physique but know they don’t have the discipline to get that far.

Simple answer is Tua was a better fighter than Galento, skill wise, as well as being bigger and more powerful.

    David Tua
    • Speed: Much faster hands and feet than Galento. Explosive first-step quickness.

    • Combination Punching: Elite. One of the few modern heavyweights who could throw fast, compact multi-punch combos with power.

    • Conditioning: Generally top-tier, especially during his peak years in the mid-to-late 1990s.

    • Quality of Opposition: Fought prime Lennox Lewis, Ike Ibeabuchi, Rahman, Moorer, Ruiz, Byrd, and more. Not only fought elite men—fought them competitively.

    • Achievements: Knocked out three former or future world champions. Stayed at or near the top of the heavyweight division for nearly a decade.

    • Limitations: Struggled with movers and range fighters (Byrd, Lewis), didn’t always pull the trigger. But his limitations came against the very best.
    Tony Galento
    • Speed: Glacial.

    • Combination Punching: Rarely more than a single clubbing shot.

    • Conditioning: Laughable by modern standards. Beer and cigars before training.

    • Quality of Opposition: Aside from Louis and a few ranked names, mostly fought journeymen and club fighters.

    • Achievements: Best remembered for briefly flooring Joe Louis before getting systematically destroyed. No titles. No significant ranked wins on the level of a Rahman, Ruiz, or Moorer.

    • Limitations: Wild, fouling, short, slow, and technically primitive even for his era.
    Conclusion

    There’s no credible comparison.

    • Tua was a world-class modern heavyweight, a legitimate top-5 contender in one of the most competitive heavyweight eras post-Ali.

    • Galento was a tough, charismatic brawler who capitalized on a thinner era and made headlines because of his outrageous personality and one night of guts.
In any objective analysis — athleticism, achievements, quality of opposition, conditioning, skill — Tua is on a completely different level.
Calling them “identical except for speed, opposition, conditioning, and achievements” is biting sarcasm, and well earned.

Galento beat Leroy Haynes, Nathan Mann, Lou Nova, Al Ettore and Natie Brown. Those wins are on par with Tua's wins.

I'm sure you believe that as much as you believe Galento was on par with Tua ..

It’s not hate to point out facts — it’s actually a form of respect. I get that people are attached to their favorite fighters, but there’s a difference between celebrating someone and rewriting history. Saying someone wasn’t as skilled, conditioned, or tested as others isn’t tearing them down — it’s just being honest. You can appreciate a fighter and still be real about their limitations. The sport deserves truth, not just nostalgia. Legends are built on stories, but real legacies are built on what actually happened in the ring.
