He kinda won the lineage of the WBO belt as Mercer was the title holder before vacating it to face him.
Roy Jones once he lost to Tarver he never really had that great redemption moment. Tarver won the trilogy, B-hop beat him, Calzaghe embarrassed him and he suffered a bunch of losses. Unless you consider the Trinidad fight but I don't.
yeah he was reasonably popular. He had no trouble getting fights, TV exposure, etc. it’s not like he was forgotten. Plenty of people were happy to tune in to watch him. he did have real strong performances against McCall and Nielsen. And the Butterbean fight has to be the best any man that age ever looked in a ring.
hmmm. I thought Holmes should have won the rematch against Spinks. Spinks the bigger money fighter, but he did not impress me much in the heavyweight division, not enough power. . Worth pointing out was that Holmes later expressed his regret over the jockstrap remark in the press, even though he was right. Holmes talk a lot of crap from the Marciano clan before the fight.
Yeah this was my thought. Once he fell, he fell hard, and never really looked like the Roy of old. I don't think he was capable of reaching anywhere near those former highs again.
Liston. I think his first loss to Ali was legit but they second fight is suspect. He never was the same after was legitimately blasted out by the underrated Leotis Martin.
Even Ivan Drago got his redemption moment eventually. So did Johnny Lawrence. We seem to be in the business of redeeming 80s villains.
don’t you remember? Daniel started it all. Daniel was actually the villain the entire time. First, he sprays this guy with water in the bathroom to be a dick. Then he starts a fight with him because he’s trying to steal his girl. Then, when Johnny and his buds have had enough of this ****, they chase after Daniel, and what happens? Daniel gets his crazy old man friend to beat them all up. THEN, Daniel trains to enter the tournament where Johnny was fighting and beats him up AGAIN, steals his girl for good. the entire first movie is told from the point of view of a guy who doesn’t realize that HE is the *******. And we are supposed to be tricked because Johnny is a jock and Daniel is a nerd? Actions are actions. Daniel was the villain the entire time.
Karate kid should have been called ‘letters from Receda’ with a companion film, ‘flags of our senseis’
