One of the hardest hitters of all time with a legendary second career, but when were his punches the most powerful?

In his youth he threw murderous shots in large number that knocked out some ATGs. Although, in his comeback he had much more glancing blows that resulted in KOs.

I lean to Old Foreman but I'm interested in your opinions.

I think the old George had more one punch power because of the mass

70s Foreman for the KOs, 90s Foreman for the pain inflicting stuff.

70s Foreman was a bit quicker and more athletic so could swing for the fences more. 90s Foreman was more about timing and sheer mass. Sort of like comparing Wilder and Bakole, though less extreme.

I don't know if young George Foreman "hit" harder, but some of the misses against Jose Roman are pure savagery :)

Hard to say but the KO of Gerry Cooney was as brutal as anything ever seen in the sport.

That Foreman uppercut was, above all, a trap.
I doubt he had the raw power of this uppercut:

I think he harder in the 60s and 70s. It easy the WAY he throw punches. Wider shots with more momentum behind them.

It is close. Speed tips the scale to Young Foreman for me.

Early 90’s Foreman had better timing and set traps, which maybe made his punches more devastating. I believe Holyfield made a comment about that.

By 1995 Foreman’s power seemed to be gone. Even in the Moorer fight he hit him with plenty of clean punches prior to the KO.

90's Foreman could probably hit a static target, such as a punching machine, with more force.

Equally, take identical punches, e.g. jab, straight right, etc, with identical leverage applied, and 90s Foreman probably hit harder.

70's Foreman typically hit his opponents harder, as he was faster and able to put more leverage and a higher proportion of his body weight into his shots.

90's Foreman had more "thud" and weight behind his individual shots due to being heavier and bulkier. That's just basic physics. His punching technique, timing, and accuracy had also improved making him the more "effective" puncher. In the early years of his comeback, he put a ridiculous amount of force behind his shots literally moving them like a pool stick hitting the balls, and this would sometimes make it hard to follow up. He learned how to shorten up his shots and the results were devastating as seen in the Moorer fight.

70's Foreman has more speed, leading to explosive bursts of power. He was also way more aggressive and would put everything he had into shots when he had a guy hurt. This version of Foreman used hips shoulders and his more, almost as if he were bludgeoning the opponent to death with clubs or gauntlets.

So for effectiveness, it's 90's Foreman. For overall sheer power, 70's Foreman due to his much more malicious punching delivery.

Idk I might actually rank a prime Wilder as the harder puncher if not the better puncher.
