Still no news of a Top Rank tv deal ( unless I’ve missed something ). Incredible when you think of the roster of champions that they have. With the PBC and Golden Boy only having a handful of shows per year and Matchroom USA being a pale shadow of what it was, boxing in America has never looked weaker. If boxing in the US was to be summed up in one word it would be ‘ inactivity. ‘
What I find strange and a bit worrying is that when Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren moved to DAZN it happened prior to their previous deals ending . This meant continuation for their companies. An unbroken calendar of shows. If Arum announced a deal today it would be many weeks, months probably before the first show. That is hardly ideal. I’m guessing every week that goes by Top Rank are getting a poorer deal off whichever broadcasters are interested .
Those days are gone unfortunately even if HBO got back into boxing, it would never be the same as before. Lightning won't strike twice.
If you told people 10 years ago how dire the situation is with American boxing right now they wouldn't believe you. I know canelo Crawford is a big fight happening in America but after that things look bleak. And I know new stars will come along, but they won't have had the platform that canelo and Crawford had to build their careers like bud and canelo had.
Yup, it´s the only big American card that is currently scheduled. Top Rank has no TV deal. PBC doesn't have anything scheduled. Matchroom has nothing scheduled in America. Golden Boy has no scheduled events. A literal wasteland. But hey, maybe this will make the Alvarez-Crawford fight bigger, so there is a little silver lining.
Still no news about Top Rank. This isn’t Boxxer and their tiny stable of fighters, and even they have some sort of tv deal, this is the biggest stable of boxers in the US. Maybe they can’t get a broadcaster. Maybe DAZN are full up. Crazy.
Boxxer signed a deal to host on BBC and iPlayer. must be operating on a thin budgets there... Boxing had a run of good years lately now its suddenly dead again.
