    I like Kenny in this.

Decision bout all the way and tight scoring along the lines of 8-6-1. But Kenny has the footwork and mobility to prevent Alexis from getting set.
A tightrope act for sure but I like that nice jab of Kenny--while moving his feet--to be the big punch in the bout. Terrific bout and could envision a rematch as well.

This would be a dream fight for folks that appreciate technical boxing. I'm going with Alexis though, I believe the key difference between the two is Alexis has the power to hurt Ken but Ken simply didn't have that much pop on his punches and would have to fight a perfect fight to outpoint Alexis. Arguello never lost at 135. Buchanan certainly has the ability to win but if I was betting it, AA's power is the difference.

Not one to bet on, but Arguello has the timing and the deterrents to take the sheen off Buchanan a bit, and nick it by Decision.

I have Ken pulling this out of his arse by a thread.

Alexis just to predictable for the slick Scotsman, Kenny shoe shines his way to the win.

I'll to have think about this one. Great match up though. Kenny has the legs but Alexis will target the body to slow him down.

Pound for pound Argüello is better but at lightweight it´s a different story.

Buchanan is a speed demon, fast hands and feet, tough as nails and tons of stamina.

I think Ken will take at least the first 5 rounds, Alexis was always a slow starter and he was past his peak at lightweight.

The Nicaraguan great would start to come on after that and slowly narrow the gap.

It would be a classic but Buchanan would not fade down the stretch and take a close but deserved decision.

    Hi Fred.
As usual,a very pinpoint and feasible analysis from your goodself on a very thought provoking encounter, if the fight was scheduled for 12 then I would back Ken to win, obvs by points, whereas a 15 rounder would be a lot more intriguing and harder to pick Buchanan for my money, if he does outpoint Alexis over that distance, he would be paying a price, that being severely marked up, and cuts to his eyes, not saying it's impossible for Ken to win, but the last 3/4 rounds would be nail biting stuff, have spoke to him a few times over the years, and he remained disillusioned with the BBBC, and various writers, for their lack of reignition of his status, and career, and I believe he carried that sentiment to his grave, shame.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
    Mike.

Thanks Mike. I remember reading a few interviews and Buchanan was very bitter he never got the rematch with Duran and that he was more popular in the States than back home.

A real shame as he was brilliant, I believe Howard Winstone was his stablemate early in his career (I remember him mentioning the great sparring Howard gave him) and he mixed fights in Wales as well as in England to have a strong following.

Buchanan on the other hand fought early on in small shows in England and only had 4 fights in Scotland during his entire career. Fought more times in the USA and Denmark than his homeland!

He also fought in Puerto Rico in one of those "truly internationals" that were so popular in the island back then. He beat Ismael Laguna of Panama for the title in San Juan.

Other truly international fights in Puerto Rico at the era included:
Ali vs Jean Pierre Coopman (Belgium)
    Duran vs. Leoncio Ortiz (Mexico)
Leo Cruz of the Dominican Republic vs Benito Badilla (Chile) and Lee (South Korea)
Arguello vs Rolando Navarrete (Philippines) and Diego Alcala (Panama)
Azumah Nelson (Ghana) vs Danilo Cabrera (Dominican Republic)

Man I love Ken and that jab and foot work but this is a bad match up.
I remember Jim Watt had a nice little run and then met Arguello who would have stopped him if not for Watts grit and heart.
Arguello for me because he throws with power and more importantly his punches are straight as an arrow.

Like most in the thread so far, I think Ken could pull this one off. He has the motor, movement and lead hand to really trouble Arguello and steal a strong lead. What troubles me, however, is that Ken likes to really come alive and get nasty in the layer rounds and while you'd usually worry about an Arguello opponent fading in the late rounds, I think Ken would take more risks and lose because of it. A little like Louis vs Conn or something.
