Here's my top five list of top post-Holmes HWs. I rate Tyson and Lewis quite closely, and in my view an argument can be made to rate Tyson higher based on the dominance he showed over his opponents while champ. Holyfield is, imo, clearly the best of the era:

    1. Holyfield
    2. Lewis
    3. Tyson
    4. W. Klitschko
    5. Bowe

    1. Lewis
    2. Holyfield
    3. Tyson
    4. Wlad
    5. Vitali

Holyfield fought better comp than Lewis, but Lewis has better results, including two wins against him.

The main issue with saying Lewis is over rated based on his resume is who would you rate above him?

Your criticism is more than valid, but would this really change his all time standing by more than 2 or 3 places?

To me after Ali and Louis, the rest of the top 5, and even 10 are pretty interchangeable.

edit: Just seeing that this was just a bump of a 10 year old thread! Lol

And I will say it again… ‘LIONS’ don’t call up other fighters who they really aren’t exactly buddies with and give them their HOF coach’s observations. Lewis isn’t smart enough to notice details about fights like Steward. 100% Emanuel probably said in front of lewis “Sanders best bet is to attack Wladimir and just go for it with his fast hands and being southpaw and try and shock him. He can’t out box him.” Wladimir would’ve been Lewis’s biggest threat.

    Time stamped ;)

Sorry but… that’s a lame ass move. If I was confident in beating someone who would’ve been absolutely the biggest fight in boxing at the time and AT LEAST A 25 Million payday… I’m not ****ing HOPING someone else beats them! Lol :lol:

It's a black eye on Lewis's record to be the worst shape of his career and at the end of his career to beat a prime top 20 Heavyweight of all time by opening up 60 stitches on his face ?

Yes Tyson was past his best but Lewis was also older than Tyson by 1 year which you didn't mention.

Tyson had been calling out Lewis for 2 years and it was a big money fight against a massive name why would Lewis not fight him ?

As for Tyson beating bums ? Lou Savarese went 12 rounds with Foreman in a very close fight. Yes it was an older Foreman but it's still impressive he stood toe to toe with Foreman and took his best shots. Yes Savarese wasn't the best but he's a solid fringe contender and the way Tyson took him apart was impressive.

Stopping Andrew Golota is also a decent scalp.

    Again huge context missing here.

Rahman got stopped by Tua yes but you're not telling the whole narrative.

Rahman was well ahead on points vs Tua and got hit after the bell in the 9th round and when Tua stopped Rahman in the 10th round it was deemed a highly controversial stoppage.

Rahman had also stopped the highly dangerous Corrie Sanders prior to facing Lewis and we all know Sanders went on to destroy Wladimir and give Vitali a good fight.

    Again context missing here.

Tua was the number 1 ranked contender it's more than a "decent win".

Ibeabuchi didn't outbox Tua he slugged with him in one of the greatest Heavyweight slugfests of the modern era. The fight was also razor thin close with quite alot of fans thinking Tua edged the fight.

Ibeabuchi is also considered one of the best Heavyweight talents of the last 30 years.

So much wrong with this post.

Holyfield was coming off wins over Tyson x2, Moorer, which are some of the best performances of his career.

Lewis barely beat Holyfield the 1st time are you for real ? the punchstats were 348 to 130 in favour of Lewis with most people considering it a convincing 9-3 type win for Lewis in one of the worst robberies of all time.

This is not true at all....

Golota after the Lewis loss went on to fight a very good fight vs Byrd that alot felt he won and most people feel like he was robbed vs Ruiz.

The Bowe fights didn't take a toll on him at all Lewis just jumped on him straight away and didn't allow him to get into the fight.

Mercer was ahead on points vs Holyfield until Holyfield rallied in the last few rounds to pull out the win it was a close competitive fight.

Mercer is a former champion and Olympic gold medalist i'd say it's better than an average win.

McCall is also one of the toughest Heavyweights of all time never off his feet in 77 fights whilst fighting in 4 different decades.

Ruddock was seen as the most dangerous puncher in the division and Lewis was an underdog.

Ruddock is also the only fighter to go 12 rounds with a good version of Tyson i might add whilst slugging it out with him.

A little advice, when I literally say it's a troll job (above), don't act like a pedantic persnickety fanboy, freaking about about context, and take it THIS ****ing seriously.;) Of course I'm embellishing, generalizing and it's intentionally missing context. Lighten up!

That being said... I did then and very much still think Lewis is brutally overrated.

Lennox Lewis recently said he would have loved to fight Usyk during his time. Be careful what you wish for, Usyk would have lulled you into a trap and deliver the same knockout blow that McCall did.
