Riddick Bowe's very thin resume should've disqualified him from "legend" status. Imagine missing nearly every major contender and champion of your era. If he wasn't American he'd be written off as a big "what if?" similar to Ike Ibeabuchi.

I've heard people call Naseem Hamed a legend. I disagree.

Dempsey. In terms of cultural significance sure, but boxing achievements and accomplishments? Hell no.

I have been accused of being a Dempsey hater but even I realize he is a Legend if he is anything at all.

Bowe is the only guy to ever to feature twice in HBOs Legendary Nights for winning performances.

I never liked Hopkins style much , but does that change his status? I guess not. He had great longevity , I just never thought he was that great .
Calzaghe is another , he did great with what he had but when I watch him I think a prime jones would have demolished him.
Nigel Benn is another who I thought didn’t have great skill but went pretty far on toughness and heart. I really didn’t he was a great boxer, Wharton would have beaten him comfortably if he’d believed himself a little more.

Sonny Liston basically… like he is probably one of the most overrated HW’s ever  he’s visibly slow, not overly skilled and outweighed his only decent opposition by 20lbs if Ali didn’t dethrone him he’d just be “a guy” the way Walcott was at HW.

He went from Hobo cocaine berserker, #1 Sports Icon to Hollywood playboy millionaire… he lived a perfect life, held onto all his marbles too and retirement wasn’t bad for Jack even after Wall Street I like his modesty, I don’t remember Dempsey ever acknowledging himself as a “great” that the newspapers did that.

Who wouldn't trade places?... was a savage in the ring, attracted record crowds, banged starlets, lived a long, productive and healthy life after his ring career...

He's a legend of manhood if nothing else.
