I am looking at fights where the ATG in question lost a decision that was considered a robbery at the time. When going through records, only wins and losses remain historically, but those who watched the fights know better. Once the eye witnesses disappear all that remains is the W or L What All Time Greats will be , or have been affected by bad decisions or corruption by the judges? My first vote would be the Joe Walcott loss against Joe Louis. He was robbed, and had he gotten the W he would be considered much higher, and Joe would perhaps be lower on ATG lists.
"Robberies" are overblown. The boxers sign a contract that stipulate the rules and agree winner and loser will be decided by rules, interpreted and called by officials. The boxing authorities licence judges to judge. You win some, you lose some, or get a draw.
The Louis-Walcott decision could've had far-reaching impacts on a number of all-timers. For example, if Walcott got the decision, Joe Louis would've been the first man to regain the heavyweight title and Walcott would've been the second man to regain the heavyweight title (when he knocked out Charles). Meaning Floyd Patterson stopping Johansson in their return certainly would NOT have been seen as the big deal that it was when it occurred. Being the "third" person to do something never is. So maybe Floyd's all-time standing goes down if Walcott had gotten the decision?
Patterson vs Ellis was deemed by some as a robbery. If the decision had gone to Floyd he would have been a three time world champion which may have boosted his ratings. And getting some wins against quarry and maxim wouldn’t hurt either as those were also seen as robberies
I think JC Chavez was helped against Frankie Randle Frankie is very overlooked these days because of those decisions.
ODLH lost some highly controversial decisions vs Tito and Mosley. I consider the 2nd Mosley fight to be a robbery I had it 8-4 ODLH. And whilst Tito could've earned a draw vs ODLH I didn't see any logical scoring that could have Tito winning 7 rounds so I still consider it a bad decision. Yeah ODLH got some close decisions vs Whitaker, Quartey, but they weren't robberies. The Tito and Mosley 2 fights were way worse IMO and had a major impact on ODLH's all time ranking.
GGG would def be ranked much higher by most of the same people who discredit him today if he won the Canelo fights.
Francois Botha was robbed by the IBF for allegedly having nandrolone in his system after his scintillating effort in defeating Axel Schulz. However, the tests were calibrated for a lesser man and not correctly for a Boer man of such stature and physical magnificence. THAT was a robbery.
