    Hi Buddy.
Quite like you reasoning, and am in full agreement, as great as Hagler was, I still fancy Monzon to prevail in this most intriguing of MW fights, a few posters including the very rational and informative @Noel857 have stated they" didn't get " Monzon and at first glance I know what they mean ( sort of ) and there's the rub, to get him you would have to see an implacable, unbending, iron willed, fighter who was as cold as ice,a fighter who knew he was superior in every way to his challengers, no matter what they brought to the ring, he bought more, punchers Briscoe, boxers Benvenutti, they were all grist to his mill, his high cheekbones face set in a Inca mask, a hint to his Aztec ancestry portrayed nothing, he was, and looked emotionless when in the squared circle, long arms that he wielded like steel cables would deliver thudding punches, that would gain an accumulative effect over the round's ala Benvenutti , Hagler had this aura about him, the no fear hat, the go to war headband, seek and destroy persona, all would be wasted on Monzon, in fact it could prove counter productive, Hagler would soon realise Carlos didn't frighten easily, if at all, sorry Hagler was mortal King Carlos was not.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.
    Mike.

I am going with Monzon because of reach and work rate and ring generalship and because I think he will pull a SRL on Hagler and force him to lead ... and keep his wits about him unlike Hearns if Hagler comes out in Round 1 and tries to not just lead but kill him ... and reveal his weakness there just as with Ali.

But I think if these men fought 20 times no one would bat anything close to 1.000.

Not really relevant but on this marathon I found out Hagler ran backwards and idolised... FLOYD PATTERSON!

As much as I love the marvellous one I see Monzon coming out victorious.
His size, reach, tactical boxing ability and solid Chin , his long jab and control of the ring, they all frustrate Hagler.

As this is Marvin at his best it means that this is Carlos s night from hell in there, where he has to be focused every second of the fight.

Have you recently watched Hagler vs Obelmijas? I think Marvin would need to fight that fight to win, I haven't finished my marathon but that was shocking like watching a Tiger on the hunt. Wonder what would happen if Hagler and D1ck Tiger got centre ring? - Hagler could outbox the Nigerian but if he dug in for a fight that'd be FOTC.

    Is that the first fight.
I remember Hagler starting a little cautious in that I think then stepping it up.
Hagler was a n absolute beast in his best days wasn't he!
Tiger v Hagler??whhhfff hard hard fight.

YES the first one, I think I’ve been grossly underrating the “Marvellous One” after todays session…

I really like this observation Greg, well done. Carlos has the edge in boxing IQ, and that gets him over the finish line (but ever so slightly) 8-7. Marvin is a 15 round fighter as well, but Carlos just seems a bit stronger at the end of 15. I believe Marvin would drop Carlos at some point, but it wouldn't be enough in the end as Carlos just finishes stronger. However no ****ing way on God's green earth is there a knockout in this Classic. Great thread and contris. Kudos to you all.

Me too especially because Marvin is my 2nd favorite fighter ever, after Duran.

I voted Monzon, he may be a tad boring and I admit to being very disappointed the first time I saw him (Vs Mundine) after years of reading about him. Nonetheless he has this unique ability to read his opponents and dominate with his style of fighting. Not pretty most of time but damn effective.

Hagler is one of my favourites, who can forget his fights with Hearns, Mugabi or Minter. Also I can´t forget how he struggled with Duran, Antuofermo I (thought he won but did not look great in the latter rounds) and lost to Leonard.

Unfortunately we have no footage of his 1st fight with Kevin Finnegan, a slightly taller, rangier fighter with not much of a punch who gave him a hell of a fight and seemed to be winning when stopped on cuts with 2 rounds to go. Love Finnegan (should have won 2nd fight with Minter and did beat a young Sibson) but he isn´t in Monzon´s class.

If the Hagler from the Hearns/Minter fight shows up I see Monzon coming from behind to dominate the last 5 rounds for a close but deserved decision.

If the more conservative Hagler from the Duran and Leonard fights then I see Monzon taking control early, maybe surviving a scare to two from rounds 9 to 12 before taking control and winning a clearer decision.
