All evidence points to Fury being at least
as past it as Holmes was.
Fury's legs were noticeably diminished. noted at Wallin fight and Fury's subsequent attempt to change to puncher style.

I can't understand how anyone can conclude Fury coming off so much inactivity and a 10-round split against Ngannou is more live than Holmes who beat Smith, demolished Bey and went 15 with Williams. Even if Holmes struggle to beat Williams that's far better form than Fury's.
I am not sure what has led to the conclusion.

Apart from everything else, Holmes was a genuine all time great heavyweight. People criticised some of his challengers but had several wins over ones who were in the top 5.

Fury's challengers for his 8 year "reign" :

    Sefer Seferi
    Francesco Pianeta
    Deontay Wilder
    Tom Schwarz
    Otto Wallin
    Deontay Wilder
    Deontay Wilder
    Dillian Whyte
    Derek Chisora
    Francis Ngannou

    This is weak.
