Maybe he was top 15-20 at best after he beat Breazeale and Gassiev. But never top 10 in my eyes ever.

The Title of the thread is a yes no question just like the poll.

The question of the opening post asks where everyone ranks him

If you can't admit to what little sense it makes, it says all we need to know.

^ 17 fighters who in 2023 would easily be a favorite over Wallin and are far more proven

3 fighters I think would beat Wallin in 2023 but are getting closer to his level:

    Anderson
    Pulev
    Jalolov

    So the real question is:

Was Otto Wallin ever, at any point in his career, a top 20 fighter? You could easily make a case that he was not.

There are some sad Joshua fanboys who are arguing Wallin was a top 5 fighter when Joshua beat him. You hate to see fans so warped by their rabid fanboyism that they cannot see reason. Happens to the worst of us, I guess.

Had him at the 10th spot for a brief period going into the Joshua fight on the basis of the win over Gassiev. Never thought that much of him as a fighter but at that time I personally couldn't think of 10 heavyweights that had recently gotten wins better than Wallins over Gassiev.

What rank did you have Gassiev at the time?

While I respect opinions can change, you actually ranked him #7 in this post from November 30th, 2023.

He's lost the plot on this one. As have a few others it seems.

Here is... well let's call it a straw poll from November 30th/December 1st, 2023:
How do you rank the current top 10 heavyweights? | Boxing News 24 Fan Forum

The majority of personal top 10s in that thread included Wallin it would seem

There's a lot of Makhmudov on those top 10 lists. Looks like a lot of people had fighters who were on the Day of Reckoning card it would seem.

Makhmudov is a top 5 TBRB fighter now. Send him an email.

Not sure of the exact placement, but not too highly. Still, he was a top champion at cruiser who since coming to heavyweight had been hurt by inactivity, but in the fights he did have he dispatched of his opponents as easily as he should've. Wallin was supposed to be his first real test at the weight and most expected Gassiev to beat him. Wallin outperformed expectations by winning pretty clearly despite the SD. That, along with an ok win over Breazale, a decent attempt against Fury while still being a prospect, and considering how weak the division was outside of the top 8-9 guys, was enough for him to slip into the top 10. He would have had harder time getting in to even the top 20 with the current division.
