No. Not even close. But, hopefully it will be a better fight. The fight between Floyd and Manny was awful. Many years too late.

You can't get a fight to be that big without a villain and a protagonist. Who would be the villain in this fight?

Probably. May-Pac was huge but was also a PPV. The number of people able to watch a fight greatly reduces when you have a $90 pay-wall in the way. I mean, everyone loves saying how unwatchable Shakur is but he was able to draw around 900k views on ESPN against Harutyunyan iirc. Over 301 million people have access to Netflix. May-Pac had 4.4 million buys. Paul-Tyson drew in 108 million views. If Canelo-Crawford does even half as well as Paul-Tyson, then it will be a far bigger fight than May-Pac just going by the numbers.

Ridiculously horrible take. Ppv numbers is just America. Netflix is available across the entire world like you said.

What you fail to realise is every country had a different local broadcast showing the fight. Whatever channel they showed it in the Philippines probably had 80 mill + views alone, higher numbers than the Pope broadcast. You seriously did not just use the 106 mill tyson view on netflix vs a 4.4 mill ppv as a comparison metric...

I was in Korea at the time (NO ONE CARES ABOUT BOXING IN SOUTH KOREA, NO. ONE.) and everyone was talking about it. It was broadcast live on mainstream sports channels, and LIVE STREAMED FOR FREE ON NAVER + DAUM. (google and yahoo of korea. Back when live streaming was super rare, and it was free)

Seriously doubt any fight in the next 20 years will be as big as Pac May

No way in hell it's a bigger fight. Doubt most people could pick TC out of a lineup...

Easy answer is no......... 2 huge factors being the reason.
-Both Floyd and Manny were global superstars in the sport of boxing. Canelo is of that level, but Crawford, though respected by his peers and consistently hated by his detractors, is not a global icon.
We also have to take into account that PPV/TV numbers have drastically been effected by the amount of pirate sites and streaming availability for today's boxing events.

Now as far as the hype surrounding the bout, I feel in a sense it's being under appreciated by many due to the lack of respect Crawford is getting for challenging himself with such an opponent.

People are suggesting Crawford is only looking for a payday, as if hasn't financially secured his family for generations to come already. Others try to discredit Canelo's abilities in order to have a fall back excuse in case, for some strange reason, Crawford looks extravagant vs Canelo. Then there's those who simply refuse to even give Crawford credit for anything he's accomplished in his entire career, suggesting his accolades mean nothing because he hasn't faced a "Duran/Hearns/Sugar/Hagler" caliber opponent.........

All in all this should be an entertaining match up.. I'm personally hoping it will exceed expectations in the ring due to the lack of star power on the rest of the card.

It genuinely will not even be 5% as big as Floyd-Manny

In the real world, no one outside of combat sports fans knows who Terence Crawford is

Not at all. Real boxing fans never clamored for this and it was only a thing just earlier this year. Before it was announced nobody really cared enough for this fight to happen because of the weight class difference. By comparison Pac vs May was the fight that everyone had been wanting and asking for years to happen.

If you put cinnamon on something sweet, it makes it better. If you put cinnamon on something savory...sometimes it makes it better and sometimes it ruins it. Is Crawford sweet? Is Crawford savory? Is he sweet and savory like sweet and sour chicken or corn and peas? Listen, what you are asking is complicated. I am just hungry. I am probably going to eat some corn and peas soon. So maybe just wait for threads like this until after dinner when we can all either think clearly or take a nap. I really wish you just made threads like this at a better time. Just please learn to do better.
