I'd say Dempsey is a good deal faster especially with his feet, he'd also probably be the most explosive puncher Pov has faced and he's not exactly some defensive wizard. I wouldn't call the gap in skill considerable either, though Jack's main issue here is how reckless and undisciplined he tends to be which can make him pay against Pov due to his power and general smarts. How good would you say Pov's chin is, from what I see he's good defensively but he's not exactly impossible to land on and that's against slower and less explosive fighters than Dempsey.
Doesn't matter Povetkin has fought just as fast and even faster fighters he might struggle in the beginning but his chin is more then solid enough to take Dempsey's best and once he gets his timing down he will stop him, Dempsey's defense was never the best nor was his chin. You're comparing a LHW with an actual HW its not a valid comparison lol
Any examples? A light heavyweight that's slaughtered more actual heavyweights than any other man his size ever has, like it or not but that's still relevant in any matchup where Dempsey is facing someone he could land on in succession early in a fight. Pov's defense seems good to me but it's not like he was ever unhittable and especially with those slow feet, I think there are a lot of opportunities for Dempsey to land some vicious combos early. If Pov survives the early onslaught I have little doubt in him winning, but in this fight there's a good chance he's dealing with an early onslaught to an extent that he's never dealt with before (then again, the same can be said of Dempsey) Also, Pov won gold like a year after a literal blown up light heavyweight in Roy won the title, who at that point in his career was slower than Jack. We can talk about how feather fisted and second rate Ruiz is all we'd like; it's still a light heavyweight the size of Dempsey beating a heavyweight the size of Povetkin. The idea isn't exactly crazy with the right styles, only question is if THIS an example of that?
