Divac - "it makes one wonder how you actually score fights"

With you scoring the Chavez-Whitaker fight a draw it makes me wonder how you pieced together such a ridiculous scorecard. I'm pretty sure you have watched the fight on numerous ocassions as well, making your conclusion rubber stamped my myself as biased. If you went one better and actually scored the fight for your idol, your face would be even redder than it already is with the draw you have came up with.

Your man got owned. Outboxed, missed lots of punches, couldn't penetrate Whitaker's defense, was out-jabbed, and down the stretch was worked over inside. Walking forward and trying to engage with your opponent isn't impressive, especially if you're ineffective.

Vlade did think Chavez deserved the nod upon closer inspection (subsequent viewing) but he always goes with his initial score, which is a draw.

As for how many gifts Chavez has received, only one giant one, against Whitaker, but there are a handful of fights he had which are controversial.

Do you not score fights live because you just want to enjoy the fight without focusing on scoring the rounds? For me, I've found its more effective to score the fight live, so I can avoid the impact of boxing fans and what not, and then review my score later.

    Yes

That doesn't bother me at all. Nothing influences my judgement like fans on forums or the opinions of journalists.

Already knowing the result can influence a fightfan when scoring a fight.

There is nothing like scoring a fight as its happening and then comparing your score to those of the actual judges.

Consciously or subconsciously, already knowing the outcome of a fight can sometimes influence the way one would score a fight on later viewing

.....for example, the Chavez-Whitaker fight....its possible that already having seen but not scored that fight, that on second viewing one would score some of the early rounds for Whitaker, because in your mind you know that in one of the mid to late rounds, Whitaker is going to have a big round that has Chavez on the defensive.......so already knowing that Whitaker had the only two dominant rounds of the fight, that can very well influence how you score other rounds on second viewing.......and not only that, knowing the controversy that ensued, can also influence your scorecard.

There's nothing like scoring a fight as it happens, clean and unadulterated scoring as you dont know how the judges are scoring it.

Personally, I always score big fights as they are happening.

I dont always score undercard fights, as there are things happening with friends and what have you, as I'm seeing a fight that takes away from my full concentration of the fight.......and I've been called a terrible scorer in this forum more than once:D , but let me tell you, I often do score undercard fights between unrecognized fighters where a judges bias for one or the other would tend not to be there, as they're not established fighters.......and call me a terrible scorer if you wish, but usually my scorecards in such low profile fights tend to be right in line with how proffesional judges score such low profile fights.

.....I dont know about you guys, but I think that would tell you that I know a thing or two about how to score a fight!!!:hey

......and scientist, you're absolutely correct.....I have'nt re-watched Chavez-Whitaker for a long time now, but the last time I scored it, I had Chavez winning by a point, however as you pointed out, I aways stick to my original score......the constant bashing of Chavez in forums like these about that Whitaker fight, may have subconsciously influenced me to score one of those closer rounds on subsequent viewing to Chavez, and so I believe that my original score is a better unadulterated score.

My opinion is of no consequence to Chavez as a man, fighter, champ, or anything other than Myself and a good old pro fighter from OZ watching the fight with a good deal of interest. Chavez was taggd often, cleanly and without a return of serve too often, to legitimately afford the fight to Chavez. Many years have passed... but from memory only, I doubt Chavez cleanly won 5 rounds. This is due to my personal disgust at the judges offererings post fight. Perhaps I need to review the footage???

If you feel Im not open to ridicule, you are far from the truth pal. I have openly offered many opinions on this site, with the diplomacy of accepting varying degrees of ridicule. I write true to my heart, and thus, assume others will do the same. Thats the reasoning behind any forum.

The decision against Camacho was horrible! I couldn't believe Chavez got that one. Then there was the rematch with Mayweather, Mayweather had him going, then suddenly they stopped the fight! Unbelievable! How about that rediculious stoppage against Rosario! Edwin could have gone on with no problem! & the worst of all was that hometown stoppage against Haugen! Only in Mexico City would they have stopped that one! Haugen was on the verge of a comeback and they stopped it! Don King really saved Chavez' ass on that One!

:rofl :rofl :rofl Robbi, you remind me of *******s, posting up a picture of JMM on the canvas, as if it was proof that he lost to Pacquiao.

You're a better poster than that Robbi, but your grudge against JC Chavez blinds you!

The picture was a wind up. I'm as unbiased as you'll possibly get on ESB and I'm a Chavez fan. No grudges whatsoever. Don't you worry about that Divac.

How could you have Chavez winning by 1 point? Did you score it for him on the basis of following Whitaker around the ring while getting popped all the time?
