Can we please stop with this "Fury ducked Wlad" narrative?

I remember at the time thinking it just felt like a load of bull**** to fudge over peds and not have to fight a rematch. Slimy AF.

Does anyone seriously think that if Fury had the capability to fight the rematch he would avoid it? With the size of his ego I think he would definitely take it.

The thing is that he has mental health issues and fell into a hole which he couldn't climb out of for years. If Fury was healthy and fit and had been diagnosed and was on a treatment plan earlier I think there is no doubt that he would have taken the rematch and probably won it tbh.

That's just not true. He fought a prime Wilder and prime Chisora. Wlad wasn't prime, but still the best HW in the world at the time, long-reigning champion, so definitely a 'live body'. Fought him as soon as he could imo. I don't take anything away from him for that.

Whyte turned out to be shot, but again not Fury's fault. Did the mando defence that Wilder ducked for like 3, 4 years.

And in Usyk he again fought the best in the world, ATG etc. The delay to that fight was hardly egregious. Not a live body?

The issue I have with Fury's resume, and what prevents it from being ATG level, is that he obviously wasted a couple of his prime year's when he should've rematched Wlad, fought AJ, and fought some legit top 10 contenders. Same with the Ngannou and Chisora 3 farces, which did nothing for his resume. He mostly wasted time between the 'big fights', making his resumé rather shallow.

Since you ask... He avoided Joshua and did everything to avoid facing Usyk. He has a very poor resume, and it’s completely in his character to avoid rematching Klitschko after being caught using PEDs, out of fear that he might lose.

Yeah, I'm sure being caught on cocaine and PEDs had nothing to do with his "sabbatical". It's hard to believe a guy who turned out to be a proven liar for the rest of his career. He lies so much, why would he tell the truth at that time? Especially that he looked perfectly fine in the interview right before he was busted. He then sprained his ankle on the day the results were announced, lol.

For starters, I don't think outclassed is the right word - it was a stinkout of a fight and Fury just outstank Wlad... Class doesn't come into any part of it, even if Wlad himself was no stranger to anti-boxing.

But yes, I do think it's warranted - when a massive underdog scores an upset win, there's always a strong possibility that the champ just had an off night... And there's plausible reason to think that could well have been a strong factor.

For me, for a rematch to not be warranted after an upset win, it would have to be very obvious (if not undeniable) that the favourite couldn't have been better or done better - that's obviously not the case here, IMHO.

Of course the main difference is that the favourite chose not to exercise the rematch... In itself, that tells you they believe it was the right result.

When the underdog wins and wants no part of the rematch when the favourite is desperate for it, that hints much moreso at the likelihood of a fluke, IMHO.

Because Wlad didn't duck AJ rematch. He lost, accepted the defeat and retired. There was no rematch clause activated, AJ wasn't calling for it, as he won and moved on, so there was nothing to duck.

I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based I really which we got the rematch.

Fury used his little buddy 'Mental Elf' as excuse for all his negatives, including not giving Wlad the rematch.

Precisely BECAUSE of ego, I think it's entirely in character for him to not take it...

He said himself he'd needed to be perfect to win, and he was - by his standards there were very few errors and Wlad didn't get the opportunity to throw anything big.

Entirely possible, even likely, that he wasn't convinced he could do that twice.

Plus... Entirely possible he got Wlad on a bad day, and I think he knew it.

Put it all together, and I think he knew he'd lose the rematch, and his ego couldn't take it (likewise that's precisely why it took so long, and so much money, to get him in a ring with Usyk).
