Very touching to see. Glad that Park Si-Hun decided to give his gold to someone he and many believed deserve it 36 years back. It's way overdue but at least now RJJ is finally at peace with it.
I mean.....damn near 4 decades later...... It probably would have been a better gesture 35 years ago..... Or even 36 years ago right after they got out the ring. He's already took it to his homeland and been celebrated to the max for it. Now it's a paper weight to him at this point.......Just sayin'. But it is a honorable gesture though as Roy is one of many who have been robbed in the amateur game......
Wonder how much the Korean got paid to be flown over and give his gold medal away. Must have been a lot of money. I mean, there's been robberies at every Olympics and this never happens.
Everyone knew Roy had been robbed. Park even conceded it to him straight after the fight. For some things, it's never too late.
That gold medal came at a heavy cost to Park. He was vilified in his own country, fell into depression, never fought again and made attempts on his own life. If he had his time again, Park would likely have preferred the judges did their jobs properly and awarded Jones the decision. It would have saved Park a whole lot of grief.
What were the betting odds at the time? Someone make a bunch of money or was it just good old corruption for the host country.
One of the explanations was that it was payback for some of the judging at the previous Olympics in Los Angeles.
I'm sure we will never see the very privileged Andre Ward give his Olympic gold medal back to the fighter who defeated him but was robbed: Utkirbek Haydarov. Or Anthony Joshua give his gold medal to the man who defeated him and deserved it: Roberto Cammarelle.
Did he not get a gold medal that day for a bout that most felt he clearly lost. Did he not have possession of that medal during this entire time. Is he not attempting to rectify the situation with his actions today. I just see a video. No article, so since you opened your mouth as if I'm looking beyond some data that was presented....... Inform me of the facts I'm missing. Don't tell me to read the facts unless you are going to provide the sources to give me those facts. Unlike most on this board, I don't complain about reading too many words and have no problem with being corrected when I'm wrong. I didn't jump to conclusions, I made my comment based on the information I see in front of me, which isn't much.
