Quite a fine line between not good and at least somewhat good. I see lots of world title holders, albiet lesser titles generally. Some of my fighters that may fit this mold are Emanuel Augustus, Arturo Gatti, Julian Letterlough, Jorge Castro, Angel Manfreddy, Brian Minto, ohhh, this might be the best answer now that I think of it...China Smith.
This is one of those nebulous threads I have trouble with. All my favorite fighters were "that good."
To be honest I wasn’t sure if classifying those two as “not that good” was appropriate since they were definitely talented but were also unlucky with how their careers panned out. They’re both more along the lines of good but not great category.
Well, he might not fit the description exactly but Butter Bean was what he was and I didn’t mind watching him - he had some pop, after all. His KO of Johnny Knoxville was particularly gratifying.
Then I'll give my obscure, kinda local level fighters some shouts here. Soleh Sundava was an indonesian boxer that held the PABA (Pan Asian Boxing Association) title for some time,he also fought Chris John and gave him a good fight before getting stopped from cuts. Then you have Takuya Muguruma,I know Muguruma was a world titlist, but he got it by fighting for a vacated title vs a rather...skilled but fragile opponent,he would fight some more wars and retire early, but his career was full of excitement, despite his skills lacking a bit. Naoto Takahashi was a wonder to watch,he seems to be tough and fragile simultaneously tho tbh,but his counterpunching and footwork was on point, despite only fighting local opposition. There was an indonesian boxer named Mohammad Nurhuda that fought a close, but clear loss vs Vuyani Bungu,it was his only footage on yt,but I recommend you to watch it,very good.. underrated scrap.
Ortega,Brazier,Davila and Boza Edwards not being that good? All of them were skilled on their own,y'know..not the best records but they got the skillset done.
Some of these fighters I listed became title holders and are skilled in their own unique way even if they had their limits. Maybe I should just list fighters that I like who were mid-level contender/journeyman fighters. Frank Fletcher Micky Ward Bert Cooper Troy Dorsey Rocky Gannon Michael Gomez Rudy Zavala Kevin Pompey Ezra Sellers Naota Takahashi
The middle 'king' was an abbreviation. Amir ***king Khan was the full title, as uttered by all who'd bet on him.
