A pretty underrated contender with a fan friendly style. Although Meekins wasn't a world class fighter and only had one title fight in his losing efforts against Meldrick Taylor he was nevertheless a solid contender and has been in a number of terrific battles during his career. Meekins would meet fighters such as Harold Brazier, Davey Montana, Mike Mungin, Saoul Mamby, Meldrick Taylor, Santos Cardona, and Terrance Alli. One particular fight he was involved in would end up having one of the most bizarre endings in boxing when he fought against Mohammed Kawoya.

    Some of his notable fights:

Good call out. The 12th round of his fight with Alli was pretty fun, but this is the fight that springs to mind for me when I read the tread title. Saw it live on ESPN back then...

I remember watching him on ESPN, and I have seen him fight probably 15 times at least. Early in his career I thought that he would become much better than was the case, but he was fun to watch.

His second fight with Brazier has always been a go-to fight for me when you want to see slam-bang action from start to finish.

Great battle indeed. His fight with Santos Cardona is also just as thrilling IMO.

Flo, @USFBulls727 mentioned Meekins' bout with Terrance Alli. I saw it a couple of years back, enjoyed it, and recall bringing up the 12th round. What I said at the time was that the 12th round was so good that, had I known about it, it would have been a contender for the 12th round of the 'Best rounds' thread that @Saintpat ran here a couple of years back. It was that good.

Santos Cardona was in a lot of quality fights during that era.

Yes the 12th round of Alli vs Meekins was quite a banger in an otherwise mostly one sided fight where Alli was in total control and it seemed like Meekins didn’t wake up until the very last minute and by then it was far too late.

He certainly was. Exciting ESPN level fighter along with Kevin Pompey.

I loved that series of people voting for the best completed Round 1, 2, 3 … 15 in boxing history and stringing them together in the master thread. Great discussion and introduced me to some doozies that I’d never encountered.

(And that one guy, I forget which poster, who seemed to completely lose it over me putting the stipulation of completed rounds only and wanting to get in a heated argument about it, lol … and then he tried to start his own version that included stoppage rounds (mine had to go the full 3 minutes) and basically nobody participated and he gave up in a huff, haha.

Oh, yes. Cardona, Meekins, Brazier, Pompey. Weekly top quality fights. True professionals.

Oh, man, I remember him, but for the life of me I can't remember his name. He would pick out the most obscure European fighter and push him onto us like he was the best and was always going against the grain on everything else. Ergo, you say it had to be a completed round and he, of course, would put in a round with a KO and say that he wasn't obligated to your rules. Oh, man, he was something else.

Ra's Al-Ghul? He's the only poster I know of who wasn't just banned but also had all of his posts deleted, I guess to protect society as a whole from being warped by some of the stuff he said.

A nice little back and forth war between Meekins and Leach.

That's him! Y'know, I always thought he was deleting them himself. He was a strange dude. The only remnant of him was those of us who would hit reply, which would populate our reply with his post. Everything else is gone. But on the replies one can see some of the bizarre posts he would make. Man, if they were compiled they'd be pure gold.
