Ladies and gentlemen, gather round. History was made. Not in the Octagon, not in the ring, but at a press conference, where Dana "Big Balls Until He’s Asked a Real Question" White got folded like a cheap lawn chair.

So Sean Zittel, a guy with more balls than Dana’s entire PR team, asks about the Ali Act reform and Dana’s little $400 million fighter pay lawsuit. You know, the thing Uncle Baldy doesn’t want anyone to bring up.

Dana ? He looked like he just got caught cheating on a math test by the teacher. Stuttering, dodging, calling Sean an ******* just to buy time. Bro literally tried the ‘look over there!’ strategy while his face screamed ‘oh ****, they know.’

Reporter didn’t even flinch. Just smiled and hit him with: "This is America, baby"

So Canelo, because why not, jumps in like it’s high school and yells: ‘Fight, fight, fight!’
At this point, I half expected someone to pull out a cafeteria tray and go full WWE.

This wasn’t an interview, this was a verbal execution in public. Dana’s lucky Nevada doesn’t score press conferences, or it’s 10-7, maybe even a KO.

Anyway, enjoy the video. Watch Uncle Dana forget how words work.

That was brutal. Canelo’s trolling added to it.

I always liked Sean on Shawn Porter's podcast but that was so awesome.

I can't stand Dana White. The UFC is a joke and I watched UFC 1 live, went to UFC 7, watched all of Pride.

At one point Dana wanted to make the UFC bigger than soccer and instead made it all about himself.

Basically, an aerobics instructor that won the lottery.

Dana is the poster child of what sucks in 21st century America. Why have any integrity or do something interesting when you can make a few more dollars you won't spend.

The poster child of the insane, delusional, American homo economicus religion.

That was great. Sean Zittel exposed Dana for the greedy snake that he has always been and you can even hear the boos as well. It's so funny how the response Dana can only fall back on is "set up an interview with me" which he keeps repeating four times. We all know Dana is just going to decline it regardless.

There's no monopoly in boxing. Dana White won't be able to pull the same stuff he does in UFC where fighters get paid $500k and a lifetime supply of Reebok gear.

So... did Dana ever do a follow up interview with this or did he "decline" the offer?

I'm hardly the guys biggest fan but how did he make it all about himself? because hes a visible promoter who talks to the media etc regularly? If anything thats a good thing.

The UFC has been producing stars at a higher rate than boxing in the almost quarter of a century hes been there, and tends to draw more consistent interest. That doesnt really mesh with the idea that its all about Dana White. It was never going to be "bigger than soccer" but it is many ways bigger than boxing now, and has turned into a multi billion dollar industry, and will continue to be when Dana is gone.

What metrics are you using for this?

UFC is certainly more popular than boxing in certain markets & certain demographics but not at the global level & when I say global I do mean global as in Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Mexico etc etc

In any case the 2 are not in competition because there is little overlap in audience between the 2. MMA & Pro wrestling has a bigger overlap, not surprising given the early pro wrestling influence on MMA especially in Japan

He is not a promoter who talks to the media regularly, even Eddie Hearn does that. He is a promoter who tries to make it about himself, just like how he told Zittel to stay on topic while not saying a word when Kellerman was glazing him.

Kellerman was promoting Dana White not Crawford vs Canelo, that's what's objectionable

Boxing overpays and promotes ducking, ufc underpays but the best always fights the best. Probably need something in the middle.

A league system where profits are split with the athletes 50/50 like you see in the NFL and NBA would be best for all. The control needed to mandate and enforce the best matchups but with the athletes being well paid.

Thats 4 countries, not global. And even then the biggest things happening in Thailand in terms of drawing an audience on a global level are One FC cards, and Japanese boxing is not as big as Pride and K-1 were in the 90s and 00s.

Both sports are niche in the majority of countries in terms of having domestic scenes etc, the crucial difference is MMA has its own WWE/NFL/NBA, ie a clear huge no1 league that centralizes peoples attention to it, while boxing is fragmented across a bunch of small promotions. Whatever nationality you are the likelihood is the best MMA fighters from your country are in the UFC. The end result of that is the UFC is going to have more regular viewers, spread across a wider range of countries and demographics, than any boxing promotion, its a true international "league". You cant say that about Matchroom, PBC, Top Rank, Golden Boy etc. The only time a boxing card generates proper international interest is when guys like Canelo, AJ, Fury, Usyk, Crawford etc fight, and a good chunk of the people watching likely dont even know what promotion its happening under, much less tune in regularly to cards from those promotions.

    Sorry, missed this part originally.

I mean, where to start? the UFC allegedly generates more money than all major boxing promotions combined. They just signed a $7.7 billion dollar 7 year long broadcast deal while boxing has been getting dropped from networks for years now even though its costing much less for rights (Top Rank was around $80m a year for ESPN). Even if we bring up boxing on Netflix (obviously a plus for the mainstream exposure of the sport) its a handful of cards a year, with some of them being Youtuber gimmick fights. Meanwhile the UFC just turned Netflix down because they were "only" gonna take the monthly cards. Why would Netflix be willing to put on UFC cards much more frequently than boxing cards if boxing was drawing a bigger global audience on average?

Then theres things like EA, who originally turned the UFC down in the 00s when they were approached about making the video game, then a few years later dropping their Fight Night games and switching to making UFC games instead, leading to there being no major boxing video games for over a decade until Undisputed came out. Guys like AJ and Fury were DLC characters on UFC games.

So MMA has by far the biggest single promotion in either sport. Then theres things like Youtube views, social media followers, forum traffic etc. If you pay attention over time a clear pattern emerges and it pretty much all points towards MMA seemingly generating more interest. Just had a quick look at Reddit (which has the biggest forums for both sports) and even this week with Canelo/Crawford happening vs a relatively quiet week for MMA the MMA board still had more visitors than the boxing board (529k vs 729k), I think we discussed this last week on another thread and that week the MMA board had had almost 3x as many visitors.

Its not even just the UFC either. Which boxing matches in recent times have drawn 60k in Germany like Oktagon did last year? 30k in France like KSW did also last year? 50k in Poland for KSW in 2024 etc etc.
