This fight should be headline news across the globe. Eddie would have promoted the event so that it would be impossible to ignore. Turki has dropped a bollock giving it to Dana.
it is headline news in the sportsworld. My Samsung TV was showing me ads for it last night. Netflix is showing ads for it. My wife, a (now high school) teacher told me there’s a rivalry between the black and latino kids in her classes over it and she was being asked who she’s rooting for, etc. the word is out there.
I think this fight has been promoted pretty well to be honest. Dana is obviously a good promoter himself too but it also massively depends on the fighter's marketability as a whole. When Hearn was at his best, he had both a prime AJ who was a marketing machine in the UK, and the Sky network which is also a monopoly itself here.
I agree, half of the questions in the press conference have been about the Ali Act, UFC fighters, or White not paying UFC fighters properly. The fight could've been on Netflix anyway, but the build-up has been poor, with lacklustre press conferences, minimal build-up episodes, and the undercard is poor too for such a big event. I imagine the main event will be equally lacklustre. A friend of mine asked me yesterday if the fight was this weekend or next weekend, which shows how well it has been marketed.
The fight has been promoted that well, I dont think anyone is even against it any more. Remember it was a joke when it was being discussed, well now its a super fight. Thats the power of marketing. Im here to watch boxing and drink kool-aid, and the last bottle has just been emptied.
to follow up, went with the wife to her schools homecoming parade and block party tonight. Saw two latino kids wearing Canelo shirts. when it’s percolating down to high school kids, the promotion has been fine.
