RIP. One of my favourites when I was younger. And an often underrated fighter in recent years. Very sad news.

    a Terrible Shame,
Rest in GOD's Grace Ricky Hatton and Thank you.

I met Ricky a few times, 1st in 2004 and then my own Son was one of 5 young Fighters Hatton was looking to Debut circa 2008, he was based at Hatton's Hyde Gym for a year & a half, in fact he left there just as Ricky was about to face Paquiao, which sadly was the beginings of much of Ricky's trouble with Management, Trainers and Family.

He always wore a smile and a brave face and in the Ring a he was Deserved Champion.

GOD Bless his Heart & Soul.

F*cking nora, just seen it on the news checking up on the Athletics WC and it's rather knocked me for six. I've got a bit of a lump in the old windpipe typing this. Manchester's going to be coming to a stop when his funeral comes around.

For all the excess hype and padded record on his way up and the general overrating of his standing in British boxing, he was the last fighter for whom I jumped on the hype train and blindly, happily supported like a lunatic. Went to plenty of his fights and was at the fight hammered out of my skull with glee when he beat Tszyu.

Met him a few years later in Barnsley town centre on a night out, stopped to shake his hand and he gave me a hug that nearly broke my back.

    RIP mate

Hopefully City do something before kick off at the Utd match to commemorate him.

Jesus Christ this is so sad.

    46 is a baby.

RIP Ricky. You had your whole life in front of you. I’m so sad for you and especially your family.

Does anyone have any details? Heard he was planning a comeback in December so one would think he was clean, in training and trying to live life healthy even if it was a one-off fight. I cannot find anything other than he passed at 46.

There are a few suggestions on Blue Moon ( the Man City forum) from people who know the family or were acquainted with him that he hanged himself, though no confirmation that I've seen. Gutting but not altogether unexpected if true - it's been well documented how badly he struggled with his mental health post-retirement and he'd already tried to commit suicide a couple of times before iirc.

His reactions after each defeat hinted at the time imo a bit concerningly at a bloke who was never going to cope well when his career was wrapped up. Really really sad. I know first hand how poor mental health can wreck lives but the level of help available in the UK for a supposedly developed nation is **** poor imo and there is still a stigma around talking about it despite the prevalence of groups like Andy's Man Club etc.

i know Ricky had some issues with drugs and alcohol but 46 is too young. I wonder if it was an accidental overdose.

As for King and Arum - they have no conscience so probably have no stress.

Arum: "I was lying to you before, but now I am telling the truth."

King: No quotes but he ripped off alot of boxers and murdered someone.
