I know he had some demons but i thought mentally he'd looked better in recent years very shocking news.

One of the most exciting popular British fighters of all time who only lost to all time greats in his prime a sad loss.

Rest in peace Ricky. You will always be remembered for your heart, will to win and the night of June 4th 2005 when you ripped the title away from Tzysu with a masterful performance of inside fighting.

    This is terribly sad news.

Hatton was a great fighter, and a genuinely nice bloke.

He deserved his Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year for 2005.

He has been taken from us far too soon

Sad end to what I understand to be a troubled life after boxing with mental health struggles.

This is, terribly, a sport where we often outlive our heroes even if they’re younger than us when we watch them fight. A few live long lives with no real telling damage from their ring careers, but far more die young or sink into dementia.

    RIP, warrior.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. As a fan I liked Ricky very much. I loved the passion he brought with him into the ring. You couldn't help but like him. He wanted so badly to win. We're going to miss him.

Ricky tried to battle every one of his foes head on...I wonder if this was his way of beating his demons...so ****in' sad. Anyone out there feeling down, in trouble, reach out guys. Peace and love, Px

Dang ... such a sad news.

Ricky was never the most technically accomplished fighter, but he was all heart and soul and gave his all in his fights.
A true People's Champion, like a real life Rocky Balboa.
You could just help liking him. Even in fights where he was clearly going to lose, you still wanted him to win somehow.
    RIP Champ.

I think it’s pride that does for people like Ricky ultimately, the losses and realising you’re not quite the best, and then adjusting to a new life that is not focused around what you love, it can be very hard for sportspeople in particular to deal with. I don’t think there’s an easy answer.

Just got back from a short trip and read this. Horrible. Ricky was really talented, really tough but it seems his demons were pretty evident even during his career. I hope his soul finds peace.

    RIP.

I still couldn’t believe it when I read about his passing. I remember how popular Hatton was in the 2000s. Always the charismatic and funny character while also giving the fans a good show. Wasn’t the most technically skilled but he was damn strong, fearless and had a big heart. Boxing will sorely miss Ricky Hatton.

    RIP Champ

The police statement said that a member of the public contacted them.

That probably means that he was discovered by a member of his family.

    It's very sad.
