I'd expect that from an 18-19 year old making their pro debut and getting frustrated.

...but a 67 bout veteran and -180 favorite?????

Based on Jabbr. I am wrong.

    What I saw:

A lot of Crawford and Canelo shots were dodged or hitting gloves.

Canelo shots were much easier to see, because of his body shots.

At the time I thought Canelo might go full No Mas. Would have been a real shocker had he quit.

I rewatched the fight and had it closer, but still had Crawford winning 115-113 across the board.

Canelo showed class in this loss. Props to him. That said, he is not super high on the list of Mexican ATGs. Richest? Totally. Best? Not so much.

Canelo does this weird thing where he rides a shot then moves away completely as a defensive measure. I think he does it because his stamina is so bad that it saves energy instead of doing lot of head movement. Also gets him closer to the ropes to counter an aggressor. I've noticed him doing it ever since he fought Jacobs. He does it a lot in drills too.

Basically, this is an automatic response for him which ends up looking funny lmao

Good score that. This is the first time ever that we have Canelo losing a decision that he was seen to be competitive in. Most don't consider his losses to Mayweather or Bivol as competitive as this one, and very few had him winning or even being close in those fights. But here it was refreshing to see you and many others score it for Canelo or extremely close in favor of Bud after a fight in which the impression had been put out there that Crawford won a clear decision or something. Like you said, having Crawford winning it 7-5 or something is certainly arguable. But it was not as if Bud won this easily. Bud needed those last 2 rounds to win, and had Canelo won them both he'd have won. So the fight was on the table after 10 rounds.

I don't know how you rate the fight itself, I know you said you're not a fan of either fighter. I am a fan of both fighters and I found it to be a good fight, not an action packed Brawl but seeing two high level operators in the ring, in their mid to late 30s put on a competitive match like that, I thought they both put on a good fight. And I liked your comment about how Canelo came out looking like a tank in the early goings. And your view that it was hard to see Crawford beating someone that physically imposing. But yet, he did it, Bud did something which you did not expect, and neither did I. I knew this was a possibility, we have seen Canelo give away rounds in the past and we saw it again here. We saw Canelo tire in the later stages as we have seen as well, but you, unlike many, scored those early rounds with an eye for what Canelo was doing. And knowing how you like come forward fighters and don't like runners or stallers, you'd have to favor Canelo stylistically here.

This fight was always designed to make Crawford look good, it was not designed necessarily to make Canelo look bad, but if Canelo won, he wouldn't get much credit due to the weight difference, and if he lost, well he'll be hammed for losing to a smaller guy. But while Canelo was certainly thicker and more accustomed to the weight, Bud's Frame was bigger in the sense that Crawford had control of range against Canelo in a way that other fighters didn't. Crawford is more rangey than either Mayweather or Bivol. In fairness to Bivol he really got into a firefight with Canelo and just peppered him with those short quick jabs and one twos and Bivol did a great job with that. While I maintain that the first 4 rounds were close, and the 9th was a definitely Canelo round, the 7 others were pretty dominant Bivol rounds.

The common thread between Canelo's 3 losses are that in each of those fights, as you pointed out, he lost several rounds BIG, anotherwords there were a handful of rounds in which he was thoroughly dominanted, but that overall, that there was a majority of round in which Canelo was competitive many of which could be scored for him. Less so than against Bivol of course, no more than 5, and probably 2 or 3 is reasonable. But here you had more rounds that could go to Canelo (than vs Bivol or Mayweather). Bud won more rounds clearly you could say, but Canelo arguably won more rounds by edging rounds with body punching, effective aggression, etc.

It was great to see your score and all the scores for Canelo. And not because I'm a fan because I want to see a healthy range of scores, people disagreeing on many rounds as was the case here, and I think there were many rounds that require further examination. I know the poll of who won was awfly one-sided, but I went through the RBR topic and there seemed to be near a 50/50 split in how it was scored at the time. So your Canelo winning narrowly scored, i.e. winning the first half of the fight but losing some key rounds down the stretch, but maybe not enough to lose (right?), is very spot on.

Now in some fans this might hurt Canelo's reputation to lose to a smaller guy in Bud. But Bud is truly an exceptional talent with the tools and the skillset to beat Canelo. But all this makes us wonder, what would happen in a rematch. Who would you favor? Would Canelo train harder and make adjustments after being in the ring with Bud? Would he make a more concerted effort to walk Bud down and connect with better shots? Or if you're Bud, do you reject the rematch and ride off into the sunset? I don't know about you, but I see both as great fighters who put on a good maybe great fight. It was certainly better than Mayweather Pacquiao or Canelo Charlo to put this in perspective. But I didn't walk way thinking any less of canelo. I thought he fought a very good fight and arguably gave Bud his first defeat and this in another scenario would be a career achievement for Canelo.

It is almost as if Canelo and Bud are in a pro wrestling storyline of Bud wins the first one then give the impression that they have some plan on what to do from here but I don't think they do. I don't see what would be better for either fighter than a rematch. After such a close high level chess match, it would seem to demand a rematch.

He was frustrated, in that moment, it gave off real 'no mas' vibes. It also lines up with what he said later, admitting that he couldn’t figure Crawford out.

This should put to rest all the arguments about the fight being close, let alone about Canelo winning it.

 He rises from his boxing commentary grave for this fight and he not only reminds us all how awful he was but he somehow manages to prove himself even worse than we remember

He has done this in a few other fights as well. Its a very weird quirk that he has developed over the last decade or so.
