Was Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez competitive?

In my opinion it's much more of a 117-111 than a 115-113. In any case, the form changes but not the substance. The American gave an excellent performance at almost 38 years old, fighting for the first time at super middleweight, after a jump of two weight divisions. It's incredible, for me Crawford is one of the best boxers ever. Maximum respect for Canelo, in my opinion in the ring we simply saw the difference between a champion and a great champion.

 

It was competitive but Crawford was in control of most of the fight.

 

It was. No domination whatsoever. Biased media spewing nonsense. Clown commentators too. Max was ****ing awful.

If Crawford had won like that vs anyone but Canelo, they would have said he barely won or he didn't look great.

 

I’m pretty surprised by many saying this was “close.”

Competitive, yes, close, no…

and no, this has nothing to do with “brainwashing” from the commentary….

It has to to with one guy throwing and landing 2-4 punches for every 1 the other guy throws….

Bud didn’t outclass Canelo or anything like that, but he did stay ahead of him, and it’s mostly because he answered back EVERY time Canelo even tried to punch…

If Canelo didn’t forget how to throw more than 1-2 punches a few years ago, this would be a pretty winnable fight for him… but thats not where we are…

Why should this fight not make Bud an ATG of his divisions? He has beat everyone he could, its too bad his best opponents have seemed disappointing when the time came (Spence, Canelo) but can we hold that against him?

He went from 147 to 168 in a matter of two fights and convincingly beat not only the king of the division, but a top 10 p4p fighter…. Wtf do yall need from the guy?

This is the same forum with the asian-fetish glazing of Inoue and his list of 120 lb nobodies trying to compare him to Manny ****in’ Pacquiao…..(I know - they’re all “great” fighters on his resume because he beat them….)

 

Some may say Crawford schooled him and Canelo wasn’t particularly competitive, I’m not stating an opinion when I say that, but I’ve seen many people say those sort of things about the fight.

 

Fight was very competitive. Judges had it about right. Obviously since Crawford was expected to get blown out by some any close round is given to him by most people.

 

Crawford has proved he is great but he is in the same boat Canelo was. You don’t have someone to fight to prove your greatness. He has not proved he’s one of the best recently but still really far away from a resume like Pac or Floyds. Even in todays fighters there’s still Usky and Bivol who can claim they are better.

 

I had it 8-4 Crawford. That’s why I never get caught up in the post fight hype, once you rewatch the fight, you’ll see that it was more competitive than Mayweather-Canelo or Canelo-Bivol was.

 

It was a competitive fight where Crawford was in command throughout. An 8-4 type of fight similar to that of Shakur vs Zepeda.

 

Well we're just gonna have to disagree on this but Canelo pretty much admitted after he couldn't figure out Crawford's style and is basically admitting he felt like he lost which speaks volumes.

 

Crawford definitely showcased that he was a well prepared, high IQ fighter vs Canelo. Being able to do what he wanted to do in the ring without taking too much if any damage while doing so, being that he was highly stressed to be the "smaller fighter"...... It's amazing in itself. But for one to label what we saw as a "schooling" of Canelo is a bit of a stretch. Canelo found some successes throughout the night that made Crawford make certain adjustments. Crawford had to be cautious of certain barriers from round to round that Canelo presented as Crawford attempted to open up. It's a part of being a BOXER. That's what Crawford was last night. It was clear he at times wanted to get in there and brawl, maybe to prove a point that he is stronger than many give him credit for, but above all, Crawford is a high IQ guy, and he understands what is more productive on his way to a victory. Exchanging with Canelo was not it.

I wouldn't exactly call it a close fight as Crawford definitely did enough to solidify his win, but it wasn't a schooling/master class/butt whoopin' by any means.

I thought Crawford won it fairly. The official scores were about right. But I'm not really one to argue with decisions. It's part of the game.

The fight looked competitive and quite evenly-contested to me.

Canelo got schooled and he admitted this in the post fight press conference.
