Indeed. But one small correction: Avelar died in 2024. Instead of him, Id have Alejandra Oliveras, who was a multiple champion and did die in 2025. She was anti-trans but I was still saddened by her death, I saw her fight many times and she was a great little fighter.

Japanese boxers have been known for their dangerous weight cuts, savage sparring, never say die warrior mentality, and lack of defense. That combination has led to more deaths in recent years. Just a few months ago two Japanese fighters lost their lives when they fought in the same venue which was quite alarming, so much so that the Japanese Boxing Commission had to finally step in to make some major changes and improvements on their safety protocols.
I remember a few years ago, it was Indonesia. In fact Indonesia had an abysmal record when ir came down both to boxing deaths and airline crashes. The WBC was not sanctioning boxing fights there, and, although similarly the FAA and Europe were not allowing Indonesian aircraft into their airspace, the only airline with aircraft large enough to cover such routes, Garuda, still suffers from that because neither the US or the European Union have reopened their skies to Indonesian aircraft. For starters I remember the Adam Air, Indonesia Air Asia and Sririwaja Air crashes, which along with the Lion Air one (in which it was Boeing's not the airline's, fault) severely damaged the Indonesian airline industry's reputation. Both things took place around the same time!!
