ATG: Who Ranks Higher? Terence Crawford or Joe Calzaghe

What's wrong with throwing a parade after becoming 3x undisputed? It's not like Berlanga throwing a parade after he lost to Canelo.

So now, Crawford drained himself? Y'all seriously have zero problems sounding silly to discredit everything that man does. Crawford fought in the amateurs as a lightweight. Never fighting over 132lbs. There's this thing call maturity. Something your body tends to do as you get older. Metabolism slows down, you get naturally stronger. You can change your diet, workouts, etc... to help you develop physically as you get older.

During this time, your natural body weight may (and most likely will) increase. Crawford turned professional and was fighting at 135lbs, making weight effortlessly. After he won his first title, he fought just one more time at the division and felt physically he needed to move up, so he did. Winning his first undisputed status at 140lbs. Before the Indongo fight he expressed that making 140 was beginning to become a challenge and was hinting to the fact he was moving up. When he got to 147lbs, his weight was consistently brought up as a reason for his opponents to either have an advantage over him, and/or not take him seriously as a threat. Jeff Horn, Jose Benavidez, Kell Brook, Kavaliauskas, Shawn Porter, & Errol Spence all talked about Crawford being the smaller, weaker opponent vs them. All were stopped. Crawford moved up to 154lbs to fight Madrimov, people say he "struggled" because he didn't stop him. Said that maybe 154lbs is probably too big for him and his power isn't carrying up. Then Crawford spends a year developing and preparing his body to face Canelo and we see that he was at the very least just as strong as Canelo as he was the one backing Canelo up.

How is it Crawford can't get the credit for his hard work, but instead get discredited as if he was looking for an easy route to greatness. Crawford didn't normally walk around at 180-90lbs, He spent a year packing on muscle, all while he is getting older. He's not some skinny kid anymore.

 

When this thread was made, the answer would've been Calzaghe, now it is Crawford.

 

Agree as to Joe was trying to make the fight.

JC would have boxed the pants of Sven. Mundine was putting on a good showing with no am experience and such a short boxing career, until he got KO'd. Joe would have boxed his ears off more so than he did against Jeff Lacy.

 

Crawford for sure.

I just think if they fought Calzaghe would outwork, outmuscle and out speed him. Calzaghe was a little bit more special.

You do know wbo wasnt considered a real belt then. So half those are irrelevant

Crawford clearly above Calzaghe . The two biggest wins of Calzaghes career were both against clearly past it Champions in Jones and Hopkins and both still had him down In the first round of there respective fights. I was never ever a fan of Hopkins and without a doubt wanted Calzaghe to beat him, however Hopkins won that fight with the White Boy comments costing him the win. Let’s not forget that Reid also ran Calzaghe ragged and deserved at least a draw .

Crawford was about even with Joe once he beat Jeff Horn for the WBO 147 pound title. Crawford surpassed Joe once he became undisputed at 147, it's not even a contest now.

Mikkel Kessler had a hand injury coming into the Calzaghe fight yet for some reason Joe gets full credit for this. Eubank was borderline shot, hadn't had a win over a top 10 opponent in 3 years, last fight at 168 and would retire less than a year later after 2 back to back losses at Cruiserweight. Joe gets full credit for this. Then comes the split decision "win" vs a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins in a highly controversial fight, this was Calzaghe's FIRST fight fighting a top fighter outside of England btw(he would retire less than a year later) and considered his best win by far if you can call it that.. Then there's the fact that Joe held the WBO belt when it was considered pretty much next to worthless.

Put this all together and it isn't close, it took Joe nearly 10 years to unify with any other champion or become lineal and 20 years to fight a top opponent outside of his native country. Crawford won his first world title as the away fighter, became lineal that same year, moved up and unified the division above in about a 2 year time span since becoming champion.

To choose Crawford over Calzaghe you really have to be biased.

Just remember Crawford's fight with Madrimov. That is his level.

 

Great point. That was a really close, competitive fight. Felt like Madrimov just nicked it, and he was the champion. Crawford looked ordinary that night.

Calzaghe would have won every single second of every round against an 168 Madrimov equivalent, probably would have stopped him late too.

 

Crawford was 36 in his 4th weight class lol.
