Loved Clinton, always plenty of heart, if he had got Jones a few fights later after came back down from Ruiz he might have won. Great guy though and so pleased he became World Champion , would have liked to see him make serious money though
Yes he is not up himself, down to earth guy. Bit like most Yorkshire men. Good boxer and brave and value for money for general boxing fans. Never in a dull fight. Great lad, and a genuine world champion
He was in a thread in the classic forum I commented on that too. I think in this British Boxing people are more on about what is going on now. People forget and without being controversial, if he have been from London areas he may have got more spoken about, just maybe, But in this site I think he is well respected for what he achieved, which is an amazing feat to become a world champion in anything let alone boxing. I don't think anyone would have a bad word to say about Clinton, his boxing ability or personality, great champ
The man was a honest boxer and appeared a gentleman to boot , it's mostly the ones that shout the loudest and waste their talent that get talked about the most , I hope Clinton earned enough from the sport he graced to have set himself up comfortably in whatever he's doing now he's retired from the sport.
Good fighter who became a world champion and mixed it with some of the best in his division. An honest, no frills fighter who, perhaps, doesn't quite get the credit he deserves.
Exactly that. Did a lot of things well but wasn't say huge puncher or show off. A hard lad for Sheffield who mixed it with some of the best. The Tarver fight was weird like he'd beat himself before he got in the ring. BUT an exiting trilogy with Johnson. Muriqi, Gonzalez twice, a career to be proud off.
My mate met him in a fishing tackle shop in Sheffield. Said Woods was a keen angler and and a really nice fella Richie Woodhall and his late father Lennie used to use the fishing shop I worked in for a while, Richie and Lennie were both fishing mad and entered a lot of competitions. Richie was a big spender and used to come in the shop with a guy named Andy Hunt who played up front for West Brom. As for my opinion on Woods, a very solid guy with the style to give most fighters an honest night's work. Generally found wanting when fighting the elite, but seems a very good guy
Somebody asked if Razor Ruddock could win a belt these days (definite maybe). Well, Clinton Woods could win a belt these days, or go out swinging.
Not-very-fun fact: my first ever live boxing fight was Clinton Woods vs Julio Cesar Gonzalez at Sheffield Arena as a 14 year old.
