The real reason Allen took the fight, the risks he faces, and the combinations and strategies that could give him a chance to beat Makhmudov. This content is protected This content is protected
I like Allen but I just have that feeling he’s going to let everyone down again. I really hope he comes in fit, sharp and gets the win then really propels himself. Even if he loses as long as he gives it a good go he can still come out of it in a good position.
Makhmudov's weaknesses have been exposed in previous fights. But it's really difficult to pick the guy who was stopped by David Price, who was already 24-6 and 36 years old at the time.
same, it's always 1 step forward then 1 step back, but i really hope he wins then lands a 7 figure pay day.
The best thing about this fight is that it’s just reiterated what a squirmer Hearn is. Hearn was begging for Johnny Fisher to knock Allen out a year ago and now he’s acting like he’s been alongside Allen all along now there’s a few quid to be made from him. Sums the slimeball up. Fed him to Whyte and Ortiz for crap paydays. Didn’t wanna know him after the Price defeat. Screwed him over with the Dubois fight years ago by promising him the same money then retracting the offer just so he wouldn’t fight on a Warren show.
Funny I’ve just rewatched the Allen fisher 2 fight, the cringy moment when Hearn disowns fisher and teams back up with Allen after the fight still amuses me way more than it should! It’s a belter! Allen could be a real problem at a certain level and could definitely have had a better career than he has but it’s like he lacks that desire and that along with commitment issues means it’s very difficult to back him with any confidence! I do hope he can do it though!
Promoters have always been the same. As the saying goes, enter the ring with the champ, leave the ring with the champ.
Price is a very underrated boxer though. If you let him box at his pace he’ll box your head off all night.
Pre Tony Thomson, Price was the heaviest handed HW in the world. However post Tony Thompson, you just needed a half decent chin and the ability to throw more than 40 punches a round to get him out of there. The issue Allen faces in this fight is that even when he is in shape he is not a volume puncher. To get the Mak out of there he would need to be throwing 50-60 punches early bells and landing regularly. No chance. Reality is that the Mak makes mincemeat out of Dave. Under 6 rounds a KO win for the Mak.
