People also forget how well Echols was going at the time. On a hot streak that was only broken in a good fight against B-Hop before fighting Mundine. That was a very good win.

Yep I could definitely see the Mundine who fought Green and Soliman giving Crawford serious trouble.

As well as Mundine did in his career, he'll always be a bit of a 'what if?' to me. I reckon with a longer career, he would have been caught and stopped a few times but he would have come back with very good wins. Look at Tommy Hearns, not the best chin and he got KO'd a few times, upset by Barkley etc but he was so good that it didn't stop him. I know he was crazy good with power but I reckon Mundine would have been similar, lose his fair share but come back, time and time again. It's all hypothetical though.

Yeah agreed there is a lot of what if when it comes to Choc for whatever reason his career seemed to nose dive when he dropped down to middleweight although the first fight with Geale was probably one of the highest level domestic fights I have ever seen. Also he fought every domestic rival which was good to see but he really should've stepped it up after Soliman 2.

Mate I'm not disputing that what i am disputing is Choc faced a prime Kessler who imo was about 3-4 years before his prime and fighting injured , it's my opinion that Kessler didn't reach his prime until just after the Calzaghe fight when he was on his way to fighting Andre Ward , I do agree with you though in that Choc was a fantastic athlete ( probably one if not the best athlete of his generation ) and he probably would have been a serious contender for a unified if not undisputed champion if he'd started his career around 5 years earlier and had a solid amature grounding as he was that talented but he didn't and after experiencing defeats v a belt holder in Ottke and a recently made champion in Kessler knew just how hard it was going to be to get to the very top and went down a lesser route to finacial success by fighting blokes who's talents were levels below his whilst at the same time just talking a good fight mentioning every top name as an opponent to keep his brand relevant.

    Choc was a pioneer.

    He did everything first.

Could he have been the first to beat Crawford?
It would be pioneering if he could.

He was also the first to stop another legendary US champion Shane Mosely

He is also unbeaten in the states. He went over there and stopped Bronco McKart.

    Agree with all of this.

That run from Kessler to stopping Sam Soliman, which included easily outpointed Greeny. He was world class then.

I can understand the justification for dropping down, as he was small for 168. But it didn't really work.
