Allen is not very good but I do admire his honesty, durability and yes he is an underdog when fighting any decent opponent.

Joshua has retired himself at 36 years of age next week after 13 months out of the ring and it is shocking to see an ex World Champion reduced to fighting this level of opponent.

If Joshua fights again, and in the next 6 months - I think Guido Vianello would be a decent opponent. Vianello is 31, he stopped Makhmudov earlier this year, and just stopped Alexis Barriere last night, and has a narrow loss to Ajagba. And Vianello isn't even top 10, and he also has a loss to Jonathan Rice! But Joshua's being lined up to fight Makh who couldn't beat Vianello.

I think ‘not very good’ is harsh. What are you basing this on? For me Allen is British level and I would love him to win the British or Commonwealth title. I think this would mean the world to him. Allen is probably the most honest boxer I’ve ever heard, in the fact he knows his level and is honest about it.

As for AJ, Mak would be a decent tuneup, a top 20 rated fighter who can bang, I think AJ would fight cautiously as he would be wary of what’s coming back at him. Allen took some big shots last night, I doubt AJ could have absorbed some of those.

I think you need to take the rose tinted glasses off. Allen is as tough as they come but he wasn’t in the ring with a world beater last night. It was a fun fight to watch but both are mediocre at best. I don’t see Allen as British level at this point, and certainly shouldn’t be headlining shows.

As over the hill as AJ is, him vs Mak is a complete mismatch

Tbf he quit against a fighter who’s about to fight for the British title.

I’d say he’s a gatekeeper to British level.

Based on what I have seen in the ring and all entitled to their opinions.

Allen has flirted with Britsh level but I gave to disagree that's his level. The main thing he has going for him is that chin. He's a British gatekeeper at best

What rose tinted glasses are these then ? I don’t think it’s wild to suggest Allen is British title level. I would back him against Adeleye.

As formal fighting Mak. AJ should win, but let’s see if Eddienputs him in with someone who can bang.

As for your comment about Allen shouldn’t be headlining shows?? If he can shift around 9000 tickets he has every right to headline. Market forces dictate.

I wasn’t having a pop at you. I think if his record was say 6 wins and 23 losses then fair enough. For me he is British level which isn’t bad. And unlike some fighters and promoters, Allen is honest enough to know his limitations.

Does Allen have a decent engine? Or is it just because he doesn’t throw punches?

Sorry, I didn't even realize Adeleye had vacated.
No, I don't think Allen beats Adeleye.
Adeleye did better against Hrgovic than Allen did against Makhmudov. And Hrgovic is better than Makhmudov.

It was the least entertaining fight on the show.
    Padley-Bellotti was a good fight.
Bostan-Fawaz was a VERY good fight.

I’m sure there’s still fights out there for him, probably at British level, and no doubt he could pick up a few wins but to be in the mix for any decent paydays he really needed the win last night

Expecting a guy to magically tire out after 4/5 rounds (which seemed to be the game plan) but allowing him to fight at a comfortable pace is crazy!

It was allens last shot at the big time, he’s got a solid chin and loads of experience-surely the only option after a few rounds was to go for broke??
