Two great trainers who never fought. What would happen if they had? I would favour Roger, possibly by stoppage.

I think Buddy may have been too crafty.

Did you know Jersey Joe used to drive two hours to watch and train a young Buddy McGirt?

The Buddy of the first Whitaker fight (minus the rotator cuff injury) would have beat Roger. He was really good about that time, high boxing IQ, very skilled.

“Is it possible to put into words how much you learnt from Jersey Joe Walcott” - “Nah, I still watch tapes of him today and I get chills because fighters today don’t know what they’re looking at. “ - McGirt

Met him at the Kovalev Caperello weigh in in AC. Was sitting at a table by myself waiting for things to get started when he joined me. Right off the bat talking too me like we were old friends. I asked about how and why he became a trainer. He told me how he used to go to different gyms to pick the brains out of so many different great east coast based trainers when he was a young man. Guys like Arcel.. Brown ect. Just a nice open guy. No airs about him or anything like that just a good friendly man.

Here is the thing I do not think too many people out boxed a Mayweather and at Jr.welter he actually beat better fighters then Buddy did.
And punch for punch at this weight Mayweather carries the power but Buddy has a better chin.
I actually think Mayweather would stop Buddy late.
