Floyd Mayweather Ran From Manny Pacquiao The Whole Fight

I agree that the fight was anticlimactic but Mayweather fought the way I thought he would fight, cautious. It was up to Pac make Mayweather fight outside of his comfort zone. I think a couple of counter rights from Mayweather early in the fight gave Pac flashbacks from the last Marquez fight and dampened his enthusiasm to make it a war. Hagler could have just boxed with Hearns but he knew he had to make it a war for him to have a chance of winning. Pacquiao’s only chance was to make it a war but he chose not to and, as such, lost.

 

As was his right.

 

That's how he did it after his first retirement. Eftective, but very dull.

It comes to a point where sometimes boxing is not an art based on self defense but a clever skirting and manipulation of the rules, a dancing contest. It moves from a masculine task to a feminine task. There are fans of this, I suppose.

 

I watched that fight at the gym in Oklahoma City. A bunch of people, we cooked food, all that, and the whole card was terrible. Early on the little kids- 6, 7 years old- were bored and got in the ring and started playing wrestling. They were bouncing off the ropes, doing flips and, by the end of the night, the consensus was they put on a better show than any fight on the PPV.

 

Threw more, landed more, won like always, next.

 

I understand what you’re saying but I definitely think Floyd stalled Manny until he saw some definite deteriorations and cracks begin to appear.

As opposed to Floyd, Manny was always going to begin to decline first and more markedly so - due to Manny’s style and propensity to actually engage the best opposition, suffering all the wear/tear that goes along with same.

PED usage or not involved, Floyd was clearly fearful of fighting PAC when Manny was tearing it up. He spoke of the dangers of fighting someone (Manny) who he (Floyd) alleged was on PEDs.

Even when he did finally fight PAC, Floyd was clearly leery over the first several rounds.

Marquez did what he did but Floyd didn’t come close to doing same after Manny incurred that loss so I don’t know that the comparison necessarily holds for correlation even though Floyd was of course superior to Marquez in general.

All just imo of course.

 

The kids would’ve been happy if the money spent on the PPV was paid directly to them instead.

 

What Floyd did was arguably worse than what Marquez did. Anyone can potentially run into a nasty counter or powerful blow, ending the contest.

You can talk about Floyd's expressions and behavior all you want, he simply reminded everyone that Manny cannot for whatever reason make the adjustments needed to slow down a technical boxer/mover and impose his will. Literally dozens of boxers with similar or even worse abilities/talents than Manny did so, but he couldn't. He fought the same way practically every single fight, with only a few exceptions as he got older and lost some raw speed/athleticism.

The fight wasn't even close. Yes Floyd did move and clinch, but people act as if he was Ernie Terrell fused with David Hate of Wladmir fight simply spoiling constantly and refusing to actually engage in good spirits. That is simply not what happened. He totally schooled Manny using the sweet science. Pacquiao had always relied on being able to simply overwhelm opponents with sheer volume of high speed punches and, failing that, resorting to either brawling or landing enough to get the nod. This didn't change at all until several years after the Floyd fight when he developed his jab, range control, lateral movement, etc. He never truly learned how to box in the traditional sense or make adjustments when faced with a style that he couldn't steamroll.

He got away with it for a few reasons. The southpaw stance was already awkward for most fighters, and combine that with his hand speed, in and out bum rush style, and good chin kept virtually anyone he faced honest. Him getting older and having some ring wear doesn't change this reality. Whether Floyd should've fought earlier is kinda a totally separate topic to whether or not he dominated Pac fair and square at the biggest stage.

And my biggest gripe with Pac was his quiet arrogance no one ever calls him out for. Absolutely no grace in defeat. "He did nothing". Yeah, nothing but school you for almost every round.

 

So the KO loss to Marquez is arguably an inferior victory as compared to Mayweather’s win over PAC?

I don’t think so. That conclusion also ignores the obvious fact that Mayweather didn’t fight PAC until after that KO loss.

As to Bradley, many consider his SD win over PAC to have been a robbery. PAC confirmed his superiority in their subsequent fights.

PAC fought Mosley after Mayweather did and, per the eye and scorecard, posted a more comprehensive victory than Mayweather did.

PAC also dropped Shane hard along the way while Mayweather nearly got dropped and put out himself by Mosley.

When did Mayweather claim that PAC couldn’t adjust? Honest question.

Was in back in 2010 or was it post their fight in 2015, some 5 years later?

As to Mayweather’s behaviours and expressions, I touched on them in so far as their relevance in delaying the fight.

Easy to expand on same otherwise and if it’s arrogance that ticks you off, then look no further than PBF.

The arrogance you perceive that PAC displayed post fight has nothing to do with the fight or its undue delay.

PAC’s style of volume/speed in order to overwhelm speaks for itself in terms of the heavy impacts that physical deteriorations had on his prime game.

His ability to optimally perform and deliver via that style had indeed changed/diminished by 2015.

Again, all just imo.

 

The fact that Floyd ( a way bigger and could have been on PED (due to Illegal IV) hugged Pac more than his children during their fight is disgusting.

 

Why are we still relitigating this. Fight happened 8 years after it should have, was boring as hell and did huge damage to the sport. Can we just forget about it already?

In fact, let’s shut down Classic altogether.
