Yep. He was still on wobbly legs and stumbling.

As champion I think he should have been given a chance to continue, but it wasn't a terribly bad stoppage.

I can understand this sentiment, but my own feelings, the champ and challengers, or any fighter, should be judged the same. Same goes with the "he has to TAKE the belt" logic. Playing field and rules should be the same no matter who you are. Not like champs or highly popular fighters don't get the extra home cooking or benefit of the doubt at times anyway. Of course, I was a big Atomic bull fan back then (well, still am), so I COULD be a tad biased....nah, can't be.

I should have phrased it differently because I agree with your post completely. I think a chance to see if he could have recovered was warranted. He was hurt, but many fighters have been hurt worse and come back. Still not a bad stoppage though.

    More bad than good.

Lewis head was clear, his legs were a bit gone, bit like Khan but he could have regained them.

Lewis might not have been up for much more, but I think he deserved a chance to keep going and have a shot to come back.

    BS stoppage.
Boxing fighters are supposed to get hurt. Lewis was wobbly but answered the count, had his gloves up and wanted to continue.

Lewis was done, clearly disoriented and broken ...

He wasn't coming back from that

He really had a fragile jaw ... never seen any supposed ATG heavyweight champion put down like that from a single punch

and this guy is supposed to be able to survive prime Tyson, possibly the most devastating puncher in history with unparalleled power, accuracy and velocity on his punches?

yes yes.. excellent fight and stoppage, i'm glad we are discussing it.. this possible example of why Bert Sugar left Lennox out of his top 100 greatest (although he was an honorable mention)

    TKO2

More proof Lewis is not top 10 ATG

In his defense this is before lewis was gassed up on GH and st-erods.

Really? Two knockout defeats in 44 fights would hardly suggest a weak chin, do you have any idea how many times Patterson was floored?
: 39080"]I think Lennox has the most disgraceful chin of all the HW champions.[/QUOTE]Really

Not the worst stoppage I've ever seen, but it was a bit too quick. If I were the referee I would have let the action resume, but would be standing close enough to stop it quickly if Lennox ate another couple of big shots.

the ref should have let him continue but watched very closely, ready to jump in. he may well have been able to recover and continue on.
