Terrible example RJJ was HOOGE, that’s just plain bad lighting… At 190lbs-ish against Ruiz he looked like a ball of muscle, Byrd and he were both naturally just big 168lbers IMO.

And yet Roy found it difficult to bulk up to that weight, Byrd not so much. Byrd bulked up 40 pounds in 2 years and kept his speed because his genetics easily support a far bigger frame than Roys. FOURTY POUNDS

Here is Byrd at light heavyweight.

He is taller than Roy but he still isn't lankier. Why ? Because he's a natural light heavyweight at least. Look at his arms dude. This is not a debate. He is at least 20 pounds heavier than Roy if they had the same diet.

Calling Chris Byrd a natural 168 pounder is idiotic.

Charles has a far superior record in fights contested at LHW than he does at HW.

To begin with, most people consider Moore either the GOAT LHW or the greatest aside from Charles himself. Charles went 3-0 vs Moore at LHW, including a shut out win and another by stoppage. Moore was in his 30's and a veteran of c.100 x fights, so certainly wasn't green, whilst his 10-year reign as champion lay ahead of him.

That's the equivalent of dominating a 3 fight series with prime Joe Louis at HW, heights Charles obviously got no where near in that division.

Though you slightly disagree, you get what I am saying.

He didn't, though, as discussed on this and the other thread. He lied about his weight, started out very pudgy, and developed health problems from the poor nutrition of trying to gain weight.

What you are saying is manifestly a false version of history.

I mean… “lmao” etc or wait for some nerd to chime in “If JM92 is agreeing with you…” etc, I absolutely get your angle, it’s the kind of thinking I encourage and enjoy reading, I’m sick of the same fossilised takes and it’s precisely why whilst I don’t agree with everything @Pat M says when he shoots out something like (just an examples, he hasn’t that this that I know of) “Toney beats Marciano” I don’t shout him down, it’s fresh and it’s from his own free thought not a magazine piece of scripture.

Byrd lifted weights to get bigger, it doesn’t mean he’s not a 160-175lbs guy, I have been 180lbs and 140lbs… CB makes 160lbs-175lbs easy he made 175lbs at the end of his career at 37…

So the scales just lied every single time ? Byrd could've been 25 pounds heavier than Jones and still be less than 200 pounds so it doesn't mean anything here. A light heavyweight version of Chris Byrd is not his optimal weight. Look at what happened to him when he tried to move down to light heavyweight right after going toe to toe with Povetkin without getting dropped, he got murked by a much smaller less accomplished man than Povetkin because he was drained as hell. Even as a light heavyweight you can see his muscular frame is bigger than Jones at 6'2.

He was a huge LHW but he's a similar size to Jones ? Get out of here lol. It is nonesense.

    Jones ranks higher, better resume

I'm not playing this game. If you weren't aware of the history, it's been explained to you. Byrd wrecked his body to gain weight and lied about it on top of that. If you want to learn, do so. If not, don't.

In fairness to myself, you asked for evidence, not proof. But this isn’t a hill I want to die on. The OP is asking why people overrate Byrd, and have always had a lot of respect for Byrd. His lack of power and a southpaw cutie pie style made sure he wasn’t must see TV, but his willingness to fight the best, even if they were much larger and murderous punchers, is a testimony to why some of us hold Chris Byrd such high regard. Plus, he was always classy in and out of the ring.
Personally, I think he’s earned a place in the IBHOF.
