Any thoughts on this overlooked Featherweight contender? Very aggressive and exciting fighter with a big punch to boot.

If you haven’t seen his fights with Pedro Décima and Jesus Salud do so. Great fights. The Salud fight is especially a brutal 8 round war.

Very very familiar with Rudy Zavala. I think that I saw every one of his fights, most of them more than once, and, at one point, he dated a relative of my friend's wife.
He was a very exciting fighter, threw beautiful punches and I thought that he had a lot of potential. But he also got hit way too much to have had much of a run at the top.

It was a shame he died so young. I typed that originally then edited it because I was afraid that I was confusing him with somebody else but, sadly, Rudy did pass at 30 years of age. May he rest in peace.

Never in a boring fight and wasn’t afraid to scrap, but as you said he was very defensively open. The Salud fight took something out of him and just couldn’t reach world class level.

Very sad that he died way too young.

Came across this upload of Rudy Zavala against Troy Dorsey and it did not disappoint. As expected from these two they indeed produce a grueling scrap.

His fights with Jerome Coffee and Lee Cargle were great too. Short, fast paced brawls.

I especially like his uppercuts. Brilliant use of them, all round.

Wow there's a name I haven't thought of in a long time. First thing that sprung into my head was an article on him in KO Magazine titled: "Rudy Zavala Focused - Perhaps too focused".

Rudy lost a very controversial decision to Tony Green.

Can´t find the fight on the Internet but I remember reading that Green (lined up for a world title fight in his next fight) was floored early on and took a real pasting before winning a 10 round decision in his hometown of Philly.

Remember reading in the Boxing News that Zavala was very hard done by the decision in a cracking fight.
