Alexis Arguello against Wilfredo Gomez at 126. Although Gomez didn't have great success above 122 when he fell short against Salvador Sanchez and Azumah Nelson he still had one great performance when he won the Featherweight title from Juan Laporte. Would Gomez have a better shot to beat a younger version of Arguello? Or does Arguello's power eventually get to Gomez in the later rounds?

Arguello would have about 5" in height,
possibly 7"- 8" inches in reach.
Gomez is the greatest "super bantam weight in history.
But as he went up in weight he was clearly diminished.
At featherweight Arguello catches and wreaks him with in
    8-9 exciting rounds.

Another vote for an Arguello KO win.

Its hard to see Gomez, great as he is, winning this. Too much of a height and reach difference. The thin man by tko. Arguello tko 4.

If Wilfredo thought Sanchez was a boxer he’d be knocked dead by Alexis.

Gomez fan here. No way he wins this one. It would be similar to Salvador Sanchez.

It wouldn't so much be reach and height that would decide this one, it'd be durability. Gomez had great heart and determination but he can't quite take it like Arguello. In a fight between two hard punching greats this is where it would eventually be settled. Arguello being the naturally heavier man sure doesn't hurt, either.

Some of those guys in his title defences shouldn’t have got the call, I remember for every Zarate that showed up 3 Ruben Valdez were on the way.

Aye, you have to reasonably favour Arguello, though tbh I could imagine it being very lively with him having to go relatively deep and take a good few lumps not unlike Nelson. Gomez certainly wouldn't go quietly imo even if if Arguello did eventually punch holes in him.

Gomez's problem at that stage of his career was that he was no longer as interested or capable as he was at 122 of countering on the move with a balanced, rounded approach like a Marcel, or even the more awkward-looking, guerrilla bushwhacking tactics that Olivares employed. He's likely going to go straight at Arguello to try and outslug him, which in the long run would only equal tears even if he managed to avoid the shocking sort of start he had against Sanchez.

Gomez never really did anything notable at Featherweight and Arguello had considerable height/reach advantages being 5 inches taller with a 6 inch longer reach.

Gomez would give it a good go but he would be taken out within 7 rounds Arguello is too physically imposing with too much power with better durability aswell.
