Is anyone else struggling with the thought of how weak the Welterweight division is at the moment? Historically it has been one of, if not the, most competitive divisions in the sport. How did we get here and can anyone recall when it has ever been weaker? During normal times we might have one of the current champs be lucky enough to get a belt, but the fact that all four of them have managed it at the same time is crazy. These guys would normally be fringe top 10 fighters.
Its the weakest in decades but the last few decades have been amazing. The weakest WW champs have got to be guys from the pre WW2 times when someone had to be super small to not be cut out for MW. I only follow 140 and up but right now no division is "good". Feels every division is either bad or has unproven depth. 140 and 154 might be the two best divisions. And they are both taking from WW.
Yeah I see what you mean, people are chasing the names at adjacent divisions. But still Welterweight has to feel wide open to people.
