Berto was very explosive and had tremendous boxing skills at this time period at 147. Could this version of Berto have beaten Floyd, prior to De la hoya and Hatton in 2007?
Nah Berto was always a tier below Mayweather he had good handspeed and was flashy but he got hit too much. Berto losing to Ortiz and having a razor thin close fight vs Collazo showed what type of level he was at good but not very good or great IMO.
No I don’t think he could . Andre Berto was a very good fighter but Floyd Mayweather is on a much higher level
No, but I believe Cotto, Margarito & Williams would have beaten him if Floyd didn't run from the sport by "retiring" in 2008.
Probably not. But isn't it interesting above lightweight how May Jr.s "name" opponents always seemed to be at the tail end of their careers? With the exception Alvarez, who was more Mayweather Jr. Seeing he wasn't as good as some thought and he took a calculated risk , knowing the threat was actually low, just by studying him on film. Very high reward, but low threat risk.
Andre Berto in his prime was known to be among the most cerebral fighters in the sport and had some of the fastest footwork, along with the fastest speed and highest quality of thought. Floyd, on the other hand, if he couldn't get the job done with his pure punching power, he would most likely just walk face first into punches for the rest of the night trying to out-hustle better technicians by pure volume of poorly thrown punches.
