Wladimir Klitschko vs Rocky Marciano

Rocky would have charged out of his corner throwing leather but very quickly the laws of physics would prevail.

 

Love Rocky. One of my top 10 heavyweights ever. But styles make fights and he ain't beating Wlad.

Even without Wlad's clinching and leaning, Rocky would need a lot of speed just to close the distance and it isn't possible since Rocky was average speed wise.

Wlad stops him.

None of this diminishes Rocky's greatness. Wlad is just a bad style match up for him.

The only way i could see Rocky winning this would be a hypothetical scenario where Rocky is born in 1980 and if he grew up to be 6'2 with a 78 inch reach. Then he might do it. But with his actual 70 inch reach and average speed? Nah.

Rocky is still top 10 for me.

 

Marciano is giving up 60lbs of weight, 8 inches of height, 13 inches of reach, to man far more athletic and skilled than he is.

I did my best once to make an argument for Marciano here but I think he's too light in the pants for Wlad and Wlad's style is simple awful for him. And if the ref is one of those "I love clinching" guys then Rock's chances dwindle down to single digit percentages.

 

How hilarious and sad at the same time it would be as the giant, statuesque Klitschko desperately clutches at the comparatively tiny Rock at every opportunity.

The fight:

Rocky comes out extra low & WK fires a huge right hand that sails over Marciano's head. Wladimir tries to clutch Rocky, but because Marciano is crouched so low, Klitschko loses his balance trying to grab on to his Tiny protagonist, and is hit with a huge right hand sending him down and out.

Marciano KO 1.

Two different weight classes

 

Wlad is better in every department imaginable. Yes, chin. Yes, power. Yes, gas tank (Wlad looked fine going against 190 pounders). Yes, everything. The fact was he was testing all these attributes against man-sized heavyweights, not a load of pensioners with middle age spread.

 

What Marciano weighing 185? There comes a point were size matters a lot.

Now if Marciano comes in 200-210 which was supposedly his walking weight and closer to and has a referee who is extremely strict to the point of almost no clinching which is unrealistic IMO is his best chance.

 

Can definitely see Rocky frustrating Wladi with his awkward crouch, making him miss those 1-2s, before finally timing him with a pitch-perfect Suzie Q.

It does Jack and Squat, Marciano is then given a Mormeck treatment. Let's be real, the kind of power WK survived vs Peter, Joshua and even Haye would scar Rocky for life, pretty much disqualifying Rock from even a puncher's chance.
