Cheers mate no qualms about Duran at all.. Mickeys my favourite fighter of all time .. how many natural WW/MWs became legit HW contenders? Unfortunately for him tho he fought in an era that had Harry Greb lurking about.. but had there been no Greb i think Walker would be the next best thing if u know what i mean.. Tunneys usually a controversial one that i get **** for, mainly because he didn't fight black fighters but he still beat Greb, Loughran & Dempsey .. & that's a P4P resume if ever i saw one. Ye you could argue how in or out of prime etc they were .. but you can do that for anyone.. at the end of the day he beat ATGs Dempsey and Greb multiple times. How many can say that?

Greb fighted Tunny 6 times and only got one victory yet Gene isn't in your top 5.
Furthermore Greb beat Tunny that one time when Gene was savaged early by Grebs terrier style of box fighting and had blood pouring down his face.
His only victory was over a compromisd handicapped by injury Tunny.
True greats adapt adjust and come back better .
Greb couldnt find that win again given 5 more tries.
I don't even rank this guy over Carl Froch .

LOL learn how to communicate. "Style of box?" Greb was the smaller man Tunney should have beaten him the first time, he did not and one of the other fights many thought Greb won. No Tunney is not in the top 5 , Greb is. Your point?

    Hi Buddy.
I too am a great admirer of Walker, have read countless articles and all the books about him and his career, he truly was larger than life, Jack Kearns " even with big pillow gloves on his sparring partners kissed the canvas, and had to like it " Walker " I was due to fight the English fellow Wells, a few weeks before the fight I got a call from the big fella in Chicago, when he wanted to see you, you went, look Mickey you are a cinch to win the fight he said, but it aint gonna happen, I am putting a packet on the Brit, so.... his top bodyguard Machine Jack McGurn was a friend of mine, he pulled me up as I left Capones office and said, you better do as you are told Mickey if you value your health, luckily the fight was called off not long after, also besides Greb he had enormous respect for Ace Hudkins, and said the body beating he received in the first fight was the worse of his career, and that Hudkins was impervious to punishment, also when Ace was up close, you could hear a snorting type noise, due to damage to his already flat nose, the smartest fighter he ever saw Benny Leonard.
    yea he was something special.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
ps- have respect for you, and your posts, you know your stuff.
    Mike.

Quality info cheers mate & likewise too mike.. you're one of the best posters here.. yeah Ace hudkins keeps popping up lately .. he was hard as nails by all accounts.. I've read so many stories about Hudkins.. he was working in a store when a couple of guys entered to rob the place, when the police arrived, Ace pointed at one room, when they entered they found the guys knocked out and bleeding...

Chuck Wiggins is another one too... Wiggins used to fight day and night, one day drunk, he cleaned out a bar, beating everyone, then the police arrived, he beat them too & all the prisoners when they finally got him locked up

End of the day boxing is a spectator sport ,not a game of top trumps.
The "eye test" factors much into boxing evaluation , ranking , appreciation, determination, analysis and wot not.
Ranking this guy the goat despite never seeing a single solitary minute of fight footage of cries out cringey snobby elitism.
Greb was never anywhere near goat status for a long period of time when many observers of him were still alive.
Furthermore the sparring footage and pictures of his fight stance is enough evidence to know his style of box fighting was crude and outdated.
Greb Vs Roy Jones jr would be like watching Fed Flinstone Vs Bruce Lee

    2. Floyd Mayweather Jr
    3. Canelo Alvarez
    4. Terence Crawford
    5. Oscar De La Hoya

6-10 would have Julio Cesar Chavez, Roy Jones Jr, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran and Muhammad Ali...

Before anyone says anything about going too modern (although they still might with those 5 too)

His style of "box fighting" what? We know who Greb beat and we have films of most of them. You're a mile wide and inch deep.
