I remember when DAZN launched how much excitement there was in watching Costello commentating, he was seen as the perfect antidote to the Smith years on Sky. Pity that didn't work out.
He was the perfect antidote. Didn't have a horrible straining delivery. Knew his stuff. Knew when to shut up. Unfortunately there were people on here with short memories , they know who they are, who were going ' i wish Adam Smith was on here, he was so good on Sky. Better than Costello. ' Well we've got him now and he's only every week, sometimes twice and he's going nowhere until his verbal diarrhoea gets him cancelled. Please let it be this Saturday.
i don't mind him too much - he's clearly enthusiastic and has a good commentary voice. but yeah the content of what he says is often laughable. Classic one a week or so ago was saying "there's Ben Whittaker - one of Britain's best boxers". lol.
The statement followed by a loaded question at the end is his classic from his Sky days. Adam - 'Chisora is a very likeable person, isn't he Matt? Matt - 'Yes Adam'
DAZN knew exactly what they were getting when they hired Smith and he is probably one of the best yellow journalists in the business.
Had to look this up...... "yellow journalist" is a journalist who uses sensationalism, exaggerated headlines, and questionable accuracy to attract readers and increase newspaper sales Absolutely right. You learn something every day. I still think he's a **** and I will never stop blaming some people on here for bringing him back. They know who they are, the swines.
You think the DAZN executives read this little niche forum and bought Smith back because some people on here wanted him back?
If the DAZN executives read the feedback on this forum, there would be far more than 300 UK based subscribers.
For Smith the people around boxing know he will always try and put a positive spin on the fighters, events and cards even if they are poor on paper and play out that way in the ring. Being paid to commentate travel the world to watch a sport he loves, fair play I've never been a fan of his, but he's doing a job for DAZN that they clearly like, company cheerleader and fanboy to all involved. Someone like Reg Guttridge would never be hired for long as would call a fight poor if it was Ian Darke also would, even Harry Carpenter would call a stinker of a fight poor.......Smith, 'it's a slow burner' about as scathing as it gets, hastily added by 'super guys, in a hard sport'....blah, blah.
No denying Smith’s passion for the sport — he’s been around since the days Naz made him cry, worked his way up to Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, and had real leverage, especially when Matchroom was under the Sky Sports banner. But the writing was on the wall once Matchroom jumped to DAZN. He stepped down and is now just another employee. Despite branding himself “The Voice of Boxing,” he’s really just the voice of his paymasters — a bought man. If he ever went off script, he’d be replaced by another Matchroom or Queensberry sycophant, probably Parsons next in line. That’s why I respect the Boxing News lads — they miss out on gigs like this because they won’t play the game or sing from the script. At Sky, Adam had power and could position himself and his circle in prime spots. Now he’s the supporting act. Illness or not, that Sky run would’ve been done by now. He’s got no integrity left — the same man who wouldn’t praise Hearn when he left Sky is now forced to brown-nose him because he’s on the payroll.
Looks like it’s £25 now, mate — you’d get more value at the Blue Orchid. Oh, and the final slot in the Prizefighter tournament? Has to be Bosh Snr — let’s see if he can eat a Wardley right hand.
Parsons on Comms would be the straw that broke the camels back for me. And the day it finally happens feels close
What are you talking about? Smith repeatedly refused to get into tit for tat via the media against Hearn and DAZN while he was still at Sky, and more than once praised what they were doing over there. It took me two minutes to find this clip of him doing just that.
