I’m not drastically offended by this actually. At least it’s something everyone knows and acknowledges is a circus fight, rather than everyone trying to convince us that Bosh Jr, Allen, Whyte or Chisora are somehow credible opponents for Joshua at this stage.

Of course that’s assuming this isn’t staged in any way. Joshua cruising to a comfortable pitter patter 8 round decision victory only throwing jabs just seems an awfully convenient way for this to go that benefits all parties. AJ gets a low-risk spar that makes him tens of millions, and Paul gets to brag that he went the distance with a former two-time heavyweight champion.

 

The problem for AJ is, the only fights he can get are prize fights now. AJ-Fury at this stage is a circus fight as neither of them are in the title picture unless belts get fragmented again or someone offers a cashout voluntary.

And AJ's career is going to fritter from the angry guy who put away Pulev and seemed to have his instinct back, to a faded boxer that went between 'tune-ups' and cashouts with high-level failures in between.

The contract will stipulate Joshua cannot do anything other than move around and jab.

 

Not sure if you are being sarcastic but I reckon at HW Paul Butlin, still active as a bailiff and posts training videos on TikTok, could come out of retirement and knock Jake Paul out stone cold on a week’s notice.

I think Paul will fold very quickly. He’ll get hurt and he’ll probably immediately be pulled out by his corner.

Thankfully it’s on Netflix but when you consider the multi millions that will be paid to both fighters this will probably be the all time greatest loot plundering exhibition in boxing. They’ll rake in scores of millions for about thirty seconds of action in the ring.

Got no issue with AJ taking the fight, just call it what it is. Let’s have nobody making out it’s dangerous for AJ.

 

I mean he is 36 and finished at world level, and to be that age and have the option of taking easy pay days (providing this isn’t a script or some scam on the masses) puts him in a hell of a position.

 

Nailed it. There’s no chance they will let Jake Paul take any sort of punishment, it will be staged so he gets knocked down by a jab or something then Paul says he can’t continue cos he’s got a sore eye or temple something along those lines and quits in the corner between rounds.

I don't know why people put up with Olympic boxing champions etc. debuting and fighting 5 or 10 fights against badly over-matched, out of shape midgets.

 

Yes, but the problem is, the thing (him making all that money) relies on people taking an interest, it relies on the publicity and marketing, it relies on people turning it on and watching it, it relies on it being billed as a boxing match, a fight. A main event fight.

So people like us (or anyone NOT making money from it) are going to judge it on the same standards we judge any other boxing match, any other fight.
It's a TERRIBLE match-up, absolutely AWFUL, by any normal standards.

It's very possible.
At the end of the day he could say "I lost to Jake Paul when i was past my prime, just like Mike Tyson did"
