One of them loses by disqualification. I'm betting it's Wepner.

I think George Chuvalo was a higher caliber contender than Chuck Wepner with both more power and durability. I think George could stop Chuck at some point

Cmon, Chuvalo is at least a level above Wepner.

Chuvalo should win but he was proven to be easily out boxed. Numerous fighters did. I think this would be a brawl with a fighter with limited defense however not someone trying to box and defend. We saw how dangerous George could be in those situations ie Manuel Ramos and even Quarry who had a mental lapse that compromised his defense. Before he stops him Wepner gets cut up bad which ends the fight. However this is a brawl even if Wepner tries to box a little.

Chuvalo should have the tools to win. Superior body punching, chin, stamina, defense, and overall ring IQ. I would maybe give Wepner a slight edge in raw power, the obvious height/reach difference, and maybe a slight edge in combinations upstairs but not much else. I would be very surprised if Chuvalo lost.

    So you're a Commie now?

Anyway, Chuvalo opens up numerous cuts on Wepner's "The Bayonne Bleeder" face and wins by TKO. Chuck didn't have the power to hurt George; few men did.

Different levels, Chuvalo is closer to Ali than Wepner is to Chuvalo.

George was just a better fighter all around and there's no way Chuck has enough to even slow him down

People used to talk about white heavyweights at the time and joke about them being nowhere near the title holders and about Wepner being the basis for Rocky. Chuvalo is much closer to being the best white heavyweight (Quarry) of that era and frankly more like Rocky in entertainment value and ability, not considering the exact context of a no-hoper getting a shot at an Ali-figure. Wepner is maybe the bottom of name white heavyweights, coming in under guys like Bugner and Mildenberger, decisively. He's just not good for a noteworthy fighter. He wasn't even good against Ali. That was a horrendous fight. It couldn't be much less like Rocky/Creed. Most of his scoring blows should have been ruled completely illegal. He isn't good at scoring actual legal punches, that's for sure.

Chuvalo is quicker, more durable, heavier-handed, better BY FAR offensively, better BY FAR defensively. The only way he's not better is he is stubbier. But he should kick Wepner all over the ring, best for best, frankly. I don't see what Chuck is capable of athletically or mentally that would see him favoured. Sure, as far as taking a concussive shot to the face without getting wobbled or falling down, he's Chuvalo's league. But his durability overall isn't comparable, and it earned him a pretty insulting nickname. Chuck Wepner is literally incapable of out-boxing Chuvalo. You might as well put a dead, rotten tree in the ring, in his stead, and give Chuvalo an axe.
