How long should joe parkers ban be

Realistically, big names get busted for PEDs and get six months or less, sometimes nothing. I would say six months is fine.

 

Wasn't Parker under investigation a few years ago for trafficking cocaine?

Yeah I agree with this. From what we know of the positive test, it seems to suggest one of a number of things.

It's possibly he got accidentally contaminated by a hanger-on on fight night, but maybe unlikely.
Most likely being this is something he took a fair few days before fight night.

Doesn't seem like he would be trying to gain advantage by doing that, but even so probably not a good idea taking any drugs at all prior to a fight.

There is the other possibility. That he complained behind the scenes about the stoppage, and this is a bit of a stitch up to get him out the way of Wardley becoming WBO champion. But that's just a conspiracy theory on my part

Permant ban for the stupidity.

 

Honestly he lost his belt and is unlikely to ever get the lucrative high profile fights he would have gotten if he'd kept it. I don't really think he needs to be punished further.

 

A fine, and a retroactive ban from the date of the positive test to the present day would be fair. Unless Parker had blood serum levels that could realistically influence his performance in the fight (and the chance of this is vanishingly small), then it is a matter of recreational drug use and a sporting sanction is not appropriate.

 

I'm not like a "fan" of Parker, but I like him and I just don't care about being punitive about coke or weed or those types of banned list items. I mean-I just don't care. Fine him for being dumb, tell him to take a course to see if he's dumb because he was temporarily dumb or because he's an addict, and with proof of taking the course, come back and finish your nice career.

 

Many Kiwis know that Parker is a man who really struggles to live the life of a top athlete, and the coke is part of this. He had (roughly speaking) his best runs when he was keeping things together, and his worst losses when ill-discipline got the better of him.

As such, my feeling is this positive test is probably the symptom of him failing to live properly in fight week of all times. He deserves whatever ban he gets for stupidity, even in the best case where he got it via contamination he must have been partying or similar in fight week.

I don't give much credence to the theory that he getting stitched up, despite being a big Parker fan. He isn't high profile enough that the public clamour for a rematch was going to cause massive issues to Wardley going forward.

 

Why in god's name should the man retire? He's 33, he was on the best streak in the heavyweight division outside of Usyk, and most people felt it was a quick stoppage and he probably should have won. He'll probably get six months, which he would have taken off anyway, at which time he can come back and rematch Wardley for a championship.

Seriously...what the in the world?

He's got another good 4 years left and another belt in him yet.
