Youre acting like Canelo just ducked DB this year. Hes been ducking DB way before Crawford was even on the table.

Fair point, thanks for grounding me back into reality lol. Fair play to Canelo, he is defensively very good.

On the counter, Benevidez is a much higher volume puncher than Bivol. Bivol likes his straight shots a lot and he likes to maintain defensive responsibility (distance) so what you'll see is Bivol flush out a 1-2, or 3,4 punch combo (usually straights) and then step back, give space, spot openings. Benevidez doesn't do that, he stands there, bustling forward, and he'll unload all varieties of shots (usually a barrage of punches). He's a truer high volume puncher than Bivol.

You're right though, it would be a lot more tactical and probably more difficult for DB to unload so relentlessly + irresponsibly. Though that's what DB does, and who he is. And, I'd err on DB's side in being able to corner & unload on Nelo. DB isn't your Callum Smith, he's got grit and has multiple gears to push into (in terms of pace).

That´s fair, and more reasonable. I brought up the Bivol fight as an example because its really the only time someone has consistently unloaded on Canelo, and I meant to highlight how effective Canelo´s defense is under such circumstances.

The big difference between Bivol and Benavidez is that Bivol likes to fight at a safe distance. As you said, Benavidez would be a lot closer to Canelo and this would enable Canelo to counter more effectively, definitely more so than was the case against Bivol. On the flip side this would open Canelo up more defensively, so it would be an interesting dynamic, especially if the counters keep Benavidez honest.

And something I forgot to mention in my previous posts is that Canelo´s opponents typically lower their volume when fighting him. This is largely due to Canelo´s defense and counter punching.

It could’ve been like the Bivol fight, but with a TKO. Great business in the long run, but the duck will be noted in history

I'm one of Canelos biggest supporters on here and there's no doubt in my mind that Canelo ducked Benevidez. We will probably never see that fight happen. What a shame, it would have been a huge fight.

The Crawford fight came up a long time after Benavidez was a champion waiting for the fight. Caneloe wasn't even the best at 168, so he certainly wasn't p4p without the media promoting him as their meal ticket.

Let's see if Canelo fights Morrell. Most likely another duck.

I was never convinced of Benavidez beating Canelo even 4 years back. Stylistically Benavidez's come forward style would be perfect for Canelo to tee off on him with his counters. Benavidez relies a lot on pure aggression and inside fighting and Canelo would have thrived on that. Canelo should have never intentionally avoided him when he could have made a lot of money for a super fight with him and would have had a good chance in winning IMO.

Saying that though if they were to fight now I would definitely favor Benavidez for sure now that Canelo has slowed down and has lost a step. Benavidez is still at his peak while Canelo is past his now.

For me the yardstick of measuring ducks is Bowe Lewis, but Canelo's duck is really flying up the chart as the #1 challenger for the Duck title belt.
