You know, I think that punch may not have landed. We dont have the right angle here. Baltazar also did not help his case by expressing sympathy to Blake and no one said anything in the day...
Surprised no one yet mentioned the Chuvalo - Bonavena fight ... one looked very close .. also Holmes seemed badly stunned by Weaver in the first fight and may have got away with one ...
Witherspoon knocked down Smith in their rematch early in the first round, the referee incorrectly didn't count it
Yeah but don’t think it really mattered in that fight in regards to the scoring cos I think back then it was scored in rounds rather than round winner gets 10 points so there wouldn’t be any 10-9 or 10-8 . just be one more round for Frazier with or without the kd
Here's another one. The second fight between Pernell Whitaker and Wilfredo Rivera. The 6th round and Rivera had just got up from a knockdown and lashes out with a straight left and down goes Whitaker, only for it to be ruled a slip. It happens at 44:06. This content is protected
I always remember Yordenis Ugas landing a punch and Shawn Porter falling to the canvas in round 12 and the ref for some reason calling it a slip. It was an important call in a close fight
When the force of a punch beats the resistance of the other fighter, it's always a knockdown. Shavers-Holmes 2 and Hammer-Luis Ortiz come to mind
This content is protected Donald Curry vs. Gianfranco Rosi. Curry dropped Rosi with a right early in the seventh, but Rosi popped right back up like he hadn't been hit, which was enough to fool Octavio Meyran. This sent Al Bernstein into hysterics. Curry went on to drop Rosi twice more in the round. This was an interesting fight in that Rosi seemed to have the ref completely hypnotized, and Curry didn't look sharp at all, but the gap in talent was too great for the Italian to overcome.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen Chuvalo-Bonavena, but I definitely think Holmes was knocked down by Weaver in their title fight. Also, Roberto Duran got knocked down by feather-fisted Lou Bizzarro in their fight, bounced right back up and the ref wished it away.
Chris Byrd sending Golota on the ropes with a counter in rd 2 could've been scored a KD (not that Golota was hurt, but if there weren't ropes, he'd go down)
Very interesting fight Pat ... check out from about 12:20 or so on ... Oscar had landed some big shots going into this exchange .. curious to your thoughts .. This content is protected
I will circle back to this but it will be more than a week from now (also need to catch up the Fights to Watch by Round thread). In a real grind with work stuff that includes some unexpected travel in the coming week and probably some day/night shifts as well.
