I feel like weight in should be at the day of the fight, one hour before

The entire point of a weight class,is to fight people at that specific weight.
The fact that you just rehydrate and do everything you can just to show up at fight night several weight classes above, removes the whole point of the weight classes.

    A bit extreme.

Around noon on fight day would suit me fine.

Similar to how it used to be. They want rehydration because it was determined (correctly or incorrectly) that dehydration plays into a majority of ring deaths.

But yeah, I think it makes a mockery of things. I have argued to the death that Usyk's cruiserweight opponents rehydrated into historically massive heavies on the day of the fight. Would guys like Haney, Lopez, and Okolie really have had these great careers if they didn't have the weight bully advantage?

I would keep the day before weigh in and have rehydration limits that would be kept in check with a 2nd weigh in an hour prior to the fight. Fighters cannot gain more than 3% of the division weight they are fighting in. This will be checked on the 2nd weigh in. Fighters still need to make weight in the 1st weigh in as well.

Weigh in should be inside the ring 5 minutes before the fight.

We would see more injuries and deaths that way

If there is too much of a weight disparity between fighters on fight night then that deserves more attention and the media should be picking up on such things.

Governing bodies should be forcing bigger fighters to move up instead letting them rehydrate upto 20lbs and have significant weight and size advantages over their opponents.

If should be no more than an hour before the fight.
A boxer who doesn't make weight should be banned for life, at least in the relevant weight class.
Doctors should examine the boxers on the day of the fight and in the days leading up to fights to determine whether they are healthy.

But boxing is so corrupt, whatever we think of, they'd find a way to corrupt it.

The only real answer is to ban weight limits, make weight limit contracts unenforceable, and they all can compete unlimited, whatever weight they like. They fight whoever they like, but championships would only be recognized at heavyweight.

There would be a number of interesting options to remedy this issue. I would definitely prefer to get rid of weight bullying, too. And it would make the sport easier on boxers, as they don't have to compete on the weight scale but can concentrate on being their best. Probably way safer for them, too, when noone makes weight like a madman.

    1. Random weight checks:
Like with drug testing, the authorities show up unannounced several times over the course of the year and measure the fighter's weight. The average determines the fighter's weight class.
Try shaving off 20 pounds in that system!

    2. Genetical measurement of bone density or something like that. I am sure there is some kind of marker that would be able to determine similar body metrics. Would have to be figured out, but could be very interesting with the added bonus that fighters could opt for being their best while not looking for weight class. Maybe andy Ruiz would be the greatest light heavy, because he could weigh whatever he wants and fight in light heavy? Something like that...

I think we should wait till the start of round 2

You could do same day weigh ins but you would also have to have a body hydration measurement with fighters meeting a minimum level. I dont know what that level would be but it would offset the reason that we do early weigh ins now

I agree with this approach. Every boxer has to provide evidence of their weight at random times. The average of the weights determines their weight class, assuming a small percentage can be dropped for the fight. Then the weigh in happens on the day of the fight. There must be some other measures that can be used to determine whether a boxer is safe to fight.

It might result in a few cancellations in the beginning, but alternatives could be hired for big fights.

The sport of boxing should have nothing to do with the ability to drop a large percentage of body weight, which is often done in an unsafe and illegal way.

And if a fighter fails, he could have the option of an instant limb removal ( his choice of limb) and instant heat seal repair ( a good old fashioned branding iron will suffice) to safely make the weight.

I certainly wouldn't want any cutting edge, fast and severe methods of instant dehydration to lose weight, that could just leave the fighter weight drained, weak and vulnerable.....

We don't want to give the anti full contact sports brigade any ammunition, do we?.

So what happens if a fighter doesn't make Weight? The fight is off? I'm sure all the details would be handled prior to that point, but it sure would be a shame to have a fight cancelled 5 minutes before the fight is scheduled to start. Fans sure wouldn't be happy.

    - Weigh-in the day before the fight (not 36 hours prior).
    - A second weigh-in the morning of the fight, with a maximum weight gain of 5%. For example, a middleweight fighter is allowed to weigh up to 168 lbs.
    - If the fighter is overrweight, the title is not at stake, and he must forfeit 10% of his purse for each percentage point over the limit. The opponent may refuse to fight.
