1 Oleksandr Usyk 2 Floyd Mayweather 3 Manny Pacquiao 4 Joe Calzaghe 5 Oscar De La Hoya 6 Roy Jones Jr 7 Canelo Alvarez 8 Wladimir Klitschko 9 Bernard Hopkins 10 Terence Crawford
Calzaghe above RJJ is mental, as is Usyk at number one above Mayweather. I can only presume they created a controversial list so people could react to it and say how ridiculous it is, just like I'm doing now.
I don't think it is that far out, RJJ's best performances (and marquee wins) were in the 90's. From the dawn of the millennium he fought fringe world level LHW's (eg Clinton Woods, Glen Kelly, Julio Cesar Gonzalez etc), before his fight against a weak HW champion in Ruiz. After that he had a dubious win against Tarver at LHW, followed by a devastating loss in the rematch, and after that his decline was in full swing and he was never the same again. Calzaghe on the other hand beat Kessler and a still game Hopkins in the 2000's, and he also had good wins against a fair few lesser level LHW's. Overall P4P RJJ is above Calzaghe, but considering only the 2000's that is not the case.
RJJ was P4P number one in 2003, though he was still electrifying in the early 2000s. Calzaghe really didn't fight or beat anyone of any real note until Kessler, and even then, he barely got past Jones Jnr, who was miles past his best by 2008. The Hopkins and Kessler wins are excellent, and Joe is a legend, but he's too high on this list. Crawford's two best wins are arguably better than Calzaghes, but Crawford has done it in 4 weight classes, so to have Joe at four and Crawford at 9 when they both have similar resumes doesn't make much sense to me.
TalkSPORT is a woke clown station.. I can't really be arsed to think up a serious top 10 but what about the great Latin fighters such as Chocolatito, Barrera, Morales etc.. Calzaghe above Roy? No.. don't get me wrong I rate Joe, I think he's underrated.. but he would be top 20 for me not top 10.. & Ward as ugly as he was deserves a shout if Klitschko & Hopkins get one.. Usyk, Oscar, RJJ & Manny are my personal favourite fighters of the 21st century. Prime Loma was otherworldly but like GGG just couldn't get the opponents for one reason or another.. struggled with injury too much aswell. They'd both make my top 20 still... & did they forget Inoue? He probably should make the top 10.
What did Jones do in the 2000's beside beat a slow moving heavy, Roy's won-lost record in the 2000's was awful.
I was almost nervous to click on this list ... I mean it's not great. But it's better than I was expecting. I think Mayweather should really be top. Pac-man right behind. Calzaghe looks a bit high to me - he has longevity but his overall resume I quite weak, IMO. I would actually also have Hopkins higher on the list, considering his legendary run started with the middleweight tournament in 2001. I love Jones Jr. But he's a hard one to place here, IMO. He was the man really only for the first four years of the 21st century. And then fell away dramatically after that.
De La Hoya shouldn't be above Roy Jones, Usyk above both Mayweather and Pacquiao is also very questionable tiering
I'm a big RJ fan but, yes, Joe won this pretty comfortably. RJJ was clearly done at this juncture though, four years off back-to-back knockout defeats.
