Punching power: Opetaia vs Usyk?

At CW Probably opetai if you let them throw their hardest punch on a machine..

But Usyk at cruiser rarely loaded up, he was an insane stamina machine, positional mastery.

Traded some of his stamina for mass and power at HW which works fine for him.

Opetai gets smashed up by Usyk at CW and HW Usyk crucifys him.

 

Opetaia hits significantly harder with both hands

 

I see it the same. Cruiserweight comparison opetaia punches harder because that's what he is aiming for, usyk was not. And opetaia is more dynamic. Right now usyk hits harder. can anyone imagine opetaia hitting dubois with the sledgehammer that usyk's 'ivan' is? The force is just much more than what opetaia can bring with his weight right now.

That being said opetaia is a fierce puncher

 

Jai and it’s not a debate at all. Usyk’s power at hw has impressed me a lot over years though.

 

I think Usyk can still hit harder than Opetaia, I wish them both the best.

if the question is who does hit harder ie intent, then Opetaia as that's his thing - knock you out. If the answer is who can hit harder, Im inclined to say Usyk as he seems to have better punch mechanics, and is a bigger man.

 

Both have great punching power. Usyk's power is extremely underrated because he only uses it selectively.
Opetaia's power is more apparent because he loves to get in and scrap he looks for the KO.
Usyk has hurt and KO's higher level opponents and was also able to hurt a giant like Fury worse than anyone else ever has.

 

Opetaia does seem to load up a lot; Cinkara for example (who is not exactly slick) was ducking a lot of Opetaia's straight lefts before finally eating one he didn't see coming. Usyk on the other hand is much more precise and doesn't load up, but I don't think he is any less hurtful a puncher as the disguise and accuracy on Usyk's punches more than balance out the lack of winding up. So in terms of raw power I don't think there is much in it between the two, but Usyk seems to me the much more effective puncher.

 

Opetaia, and that’s no shade on Usyk. Usyk was never a huge puncher at CW or HW but he is a perfectly solid puncher and when paired with his elite skill and accuracy, he can knock people out. Opetaia is obviously a huge puncher.

This idea about Usyk somehow becoming a ‘naturally bigger man’ because he has fought at HW is nonsense. A proper CW is 215-220lb, Usyk literally wasn’t even that big and has had to bulk up to reach 220-225. He wasn’t even a big CW, just had decent height and reach. Opetaia is Samoan, he only needs to take a day off cutting weight and he’d be 240.

 

Hard to say, how would you even compare it? And why would we need to?
Opetaia looks devastating but let’s be 100% honest he really needs to face someone of note now? Fair play he stays active but it’s getting a bit stagnant now imo

 

Hey, did I miss the part where Jayzee Opetinaaia went up to HW and hurt or KO'd SHW opponents?
Until he does that, let's not talk about his power being more than Usyk's.
There's a chance it could be, but until he goes up there and shows even similar punching power, we can only talk about his power against cruisers.
Let's remember that SHW"s are massive compared to cruisers.

Here is Usyk's power at HW.
Hurt AJ in both fights, despite boxing cautiously.
KO'd Dubious twice.
Almost KO'd Fury. Granted Fury probably compromised from the recent circus fight. Still tougher than a cruiser to KO.
Made iron-head Dave Allen retire for a while due to having him out on his feet.

Until Opetaiaia can do anything close to that he doesn't have a power record at HW.
